Must feel really good to chart so high when the masses wanted to stone him a few years ago.
So to answer his question, he was missed.

Netizen's once again show why we should never take anything they say or feel for absolute fact because their fingers are pretty far from the pulse when it comes to who will do well and why.

This makes me very happy. It sounds really good.

I know he will definitely still have A LOT of problems with the public. He shat on their collective lifestyle-bonding-uber-propaganda-culture male right of passage by not going into the military.

well it's not just that he didn't join their "lifestyle" or whatever, but people who were examined for physicals for military training after him (so people born in the 90s) were fucked because since mc mong got away with it they got even more strict with determining who's fit for military and who isn't.
so people with conditions (like spinal injuries, asthma, etc.) that would have gotten them public service or exemption (and deserved to) before mc mong scandal had to serve in the military.

he could've gone into the military after the trial as well, because the court says while he's innocent for the charges, he can still go since the age limit is 35 - he supposedly went into "repent" period for five years until he passed that age.

there's also accusation that he's actually double sidekick and the reason he has so many featuring artists is because he wrote songs for them. so in reality those five years have really been him making money under a pseudonym.

idk, i guess it's another case of can celebrities who's committed crimes be welcome back into the scene, but it's not just netizens being pissy about silly little thing.

For me, fortunately, both my home country and current country do not have involuntary military service.
So I am not coming from a congratulatory place. I understand that there are countries like S.korea, Israel, and other that have involuntary military service, BUT I don't believe in the idea of forcing people to go into any branch of the military.

It has nothing to do with him being a celebrity. I don't like that it is not voluntary.

well the thing is korea is still technically at war with north korea though. it's kind of a necessity.
and the reasons korean men are so mad isn't because mc mong isn't joining their crew or whatever, they hate the involuntary service as much as mc mong does, the reason they're pissed is because celebrities like him get away with stuff like this.

I know they're are in the middle of an armistice with n.Korea.

The american's have a large volunteer military and don't draft unless absolutely necessary.

well us also has a much larger population then sk.

the thing is i'm not defending sk's military system nor disagreeing with you that involuntary service sucks.

the truth is mc mong snuck his way out of something through illegal means and you can't just say netizens are being pressed for him not conforming or whatever. he's used his fame to do something civilians can't do.

I haven't mentioned the word "pressed." It may be a serious issue, but it is one that I am on a opposing view of. His celebrity/liking his music is why I know about him, but I think if you can get out of it weather legally or illegally then go for it. It was a risky move. If somebody is willing to go through getting out of conscription, I do not have a problem with them trying.

there are rumours about him being double sidekick? fuck
his title track makes me sick, i can't believe people are actually welcoming him back

speaking of mandatory military service, it was abolished in my country like five years ago and that was a totally wrong decision. esp if the country still has unfinished business with their neighbours.
i have a genetic illness that attacks my muscle and basically makes me super weak physically. my brother has it worse than i do and still had to prove it countless times when he was called for military. people who try to sneak out illegally, making it harder for others with legit injuries shouldn't be forgiven that easily.

mmhmm, apparently double sidekick is a team of four people, and the one who heads it is mc mong's manager - who either magically gained ability to compose hit songs or he's probably having mc mong ghostwriting songs in his name.

one more reason not to listen to double sidekick... it's not like their stuff wasn't my cup of tea anyways

omg that's ridiculous! does it hold any weight? because we know that janggeun and mikey do a pretty good job, and i know mikey's involved with pretty much every release.

yup, a lot of evidence aside from the fact that all the featured artists (except maybe sweden washhouse) have received songs from double sidekick

1. areum (ex-t-ara member) wrote on her instagram thanking mc mong for writing junwon diary and then deleted it later
2. lyn asked the audience at her concert if they didn't know mc mong was double sidekick (and actually said it on the radio, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5bgPzeokcs)
3. so double sidekick actually has four members (instead of two who are known to public, janggeun and mikey) if you look it up on the official website for korean music copyrights association. janggeun is listed as double sidekick 2, mikey as 3. #4 is ham joon suk, who co-wrote only like couple songs. most songs are listed under lee yong hwan, who's mc mong's manager (his face was on 1n2d before, and his instagram is leeyonghwan1983). the fact that when mc mong supposedly stopped his activities in 2011 and there was an increase in number of songs written by lee yong hwan right after and since then kinda adds to the accusation.

i don't know if you can read korean but most of the evidence is here. https://mirror.enha.kr/wiki/%EC%9D%B4%EB%8B%A8%EC%98%86%EC%B0%A8%EA%B8%B0

in my years following kpop and kdramas it was easy to notice that male celebrities have the habit to fuck up and complicate even more the average citizen when it comes to enlisting because of their scandals.

omfg about the double sidekick thing.

hyun bin was so fucking smart about his enlistment. leave at the height of your popularity, apply for the branch that has a long waiting period of decision so you can do all your advertisement deals in the meantime, and have the military also use you as a free advertisement for an easy two years. apparently since he was doing a lot of promotional activities the two years for him had been a breeze.

yup, he did enlistment right! and it only upped the public love and admiration to him, the same as my baby yoo seung ho.

but....we know exactly who duble sidekick are? :| is this a legit theory that people have or just made up to shit-stir? is he supposed to be alongside mikey and janggeun or instead of them?

I'm just really confused how his album is all-killing. I mean, yes the album by itself is great indeed and usually 'music should speak for itself' and 'you should separate the work from the personal life' but I don't get how someone that has done such a mess and is resented by so many can all-kill with 13 tracks? I would get it if he did well with some and for a while but this can't just be an army of fangirl's doing? and it probably also isn't because of i-fans buying because of their more neutral stance since most of these music platforms are off-limits?
I just really don't get it.

I think it's a bit of what you said and that it is new. A lot of things reach the top when they are brand new.
I like MC Mong,BUT don't think he will keep his high position on the charts for longer than a few days.
the super-fans, the extremely curious, and interested parties are buying first.
everyone else is not guaranteed.

it's the same reason how mc the max is doing well with charts even after lee soo had sex with a minor.
while there's always the vocal group expressing their disgust, there's always the silent majority who would overlook someone's shittiness for good music.

This. Im not korean but what he did was really shitty imo. He went on hiding for 5yrs and comeback with miss me or diss me? It's like he's making fun of the people and they have pretty legit reason to be angry at him. I mean psy did his military service twice and even ssh did his when he got caught.

It might bite them in the back. The album is good, but the sentiments of the general public will probably sour for those who featured on Mong's album

How...how did he get all these ppl to feature? I mean, I was on a forum last week and ppl were still pretty heated about his military scandal.

And now he's getting an all kill...like...does not compute.

um

are we just ignoring this bit?

"In Mong's second trial on 29 November 2010, after four of his dentists came forward to support his case, the fifth and the one previously stated who took out teeth number 46 and 47 changed his statement. He explained that tooth number 47 was acutely damaged, so he pulled it out. He pulled out tooth number 46 as there was a hole in the tooth, and explained that he could not know why the hole was there. He also explained that MC Mong had not taken good care of his teeth and most of his teeth needed either care or removal. He also explained that the police told him to write in words such as “forceful” and “intense” into his account, and that he was bothered about it constantly when he did not. He explained that he had never talked to MC Mong about enlistment evasion. He explained that unlike the reports suggested, he had never received any money from MC Mong for pulling the teeth out, and that the reason he took the teeth out was not from MC Mong’s request."

he didn't even get convicted on that charge, but 'deliberately delaying enlistment on false grounds', which still seems odd since the 'false grounds' were disproven

Date: 2014-11-04 03:38 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tempestdance.livejournal.com
yeah it's all weird how that trial worked out because in october of 2010 they found out that the dentists received like $80000 to take out his teeth and they found his Naver answers post asking if he could get out of the military with the number of teeth he's pulling out.

so like, he received his enlistment date in 2004, delayed it several times until 2007 when he received exemption for his teeth. in 2010 he was accused of pulling them out for military issues, he claimed that it was part of the necessary treatment, then they found out his teeth were normal. they also found out he delayed his enlistment because he said he was studying for the state examinations (for civil service) but was actually releasing albums and filming movies until 3 months before the exam, and had also paid a broker to make him a fake certificate of attendance at a private institute.

so what the trial confirmed is that they announced that his teeth situation was a genuine health issue but since there's still evidence that he was trying to delay enlistment without proper reasons, they're still sentencing him guilty for that.
and the public, since they've seen most of the evidence including his post on Naver (which still exists ha), will view him as an asshole.
