On the October 17th episode of JTBC Witch Hunt, solo artist G.NA revealed her thoughts on the differences between gay and straight men.
In addition to G.NA, Oh Chang Suk appeared as a guest on the latest episode. During the program, a cut scene of Shin Dong Yup and G.NA was mentioned, and due to the fact that the skit was meant to provoke sexuality, she blushed cutely.
Hong Suk Chun, a famous gay celebrity in Korea, responded by stating that he can hug G.NA without hesitation, and G.NA positively responded to his statement.
When Shin Dong Yup asked G.NA if there was a difference bwetween hugging a straight man and a gay man, she immediately responded by saying that it is “totally different”. She further commented that gay men can understand women a lot better, and called Hong Suk Chun her girlfriend.

Date: 2014-10-19 10:11 am (UTC)"Gay men can understand women a lot better"? Since when? I seriously don't think that being a gay man automatically causes said men to be able to understand how a woman thinks, or how women experience lives. Not to mention that women (and men. everyone in general) are not some hive-minded group. Cool if you know how some women think, but don't assume that you're an expert on everyone of that sex/gender. But, really, gay men are completely capable of being misogynistic. They are not "above" it.
"..and called Hong Suk Chun her girlfriend."
Again, she may have been joking, and this may just be something that is between her and him. But, if she has that attitude towards all/most gay men, then MAJOR SIDE-EYE. Why is it okay to assign your own gender (one that they do not identify with) to another person simply because of who they are sexually attracted to, or how they may/may not act? idk mang.
That's how I feeels~.
I can understand though when she says that it's a different feeling hugging a straight guy and a gay guy, if only for the fact that one side is less likely to try and get into your pants. But still.

Date: 2014-10-19 10:46 am (UTC)we still have a long way to go.i still find myself thinking sometimes that my gay guy friends understand me better, that i can relate to them better than my straight guy friends, that i can talk to them about things i would usually only talk about with my girl friends, but i really try to correct that and remember that they're still men, gay or not.

Date: 2014-10-20 03:16 pm (UTC)and idt it's wrong to talk more with friends, because it's not really about gender/sexuality, but it's about how close you are with them and how much you can trust them, also because how relatable you are about the topic
I still believe that being open and less sensitive about things will actually let people to learn more about issues, not blaming/condemning people everytime they say 'wrong' things because it'll actually drive people away and creating fractions which actually disturb the information exchange

Plus it's the very ignorant/misinformed stereotype that women have perfect understanding of each other and men have perfect understanding of each other without any overlap, because the genders are like different species or some-such nonsense.
What we have here is what I like to call Double Dumb. Super duper Double Dumb.
Way to go, G.NA!
