Yoo Yeon Seok Enlisted in Air Force Because of His Ex-Girlfriend
Yoo Yeon Seok made a confession regarding his past relationship.
During a recent shoot for SBS’s Healing Camp, Yoo Yeon Seok revealed the reason he served in the military earlier than other actors his age.
Yoo Yeon Seok debuted when he was 20 years old, acting as young Yoo Ji Tae in the film Old Boy. Old Boy gained a huge success at the time, earning popularity for the cast members. But contrary to expectations, Yoo Yeon Seok failed to receive the spotlight at the time.
Yoo Yeon Seok said, “After filming Old Boy, the other cast members all filmed their next movie but I was acting in a school theatre. Everyone, except me, became successful. So I enlisted in the army.”
Yoo Yeon Seok chose to enlist in the air force at the time, despite the fact that air force requires three more months of service compared to others.
About this, Yoo Yeon Seok revealed, “My girlfriend’s house was near the air force training center. She told me that she’d come visit me often so I enlisted in the air force but she ended up breaking up with me when I was in the training center. It felt like my goals had disappeared all of a sudden when I was in the military.”
He added, “I just endured through it with a sense of resignation. If I think about it now, I think was able to act out romance and one-sided love in Reply 1994 because of her.”

Yoo Yeon Seok Used to Carry Sung Yuri′s Picture Around
Yoo Yeon Seok confessed that he is a fan of Sung Yuri.
Since joining SBS’s Healing Camp last July, Sung Yuri has been hosting the show by closely listening to the guests, showing great teamwork with the two male MCs, Lee Kyung Kyu and Kim Je Dong, and flaunting her shining beauty. A number of fan viewers even claimed that they watch Healing Camp because of Sung Yuri.
In the midst of this, SBS’s Healing Camp released a set of behind-the-scenes photos of Sung Yuri on September 26.
The photos were from Yoo Yeon Seok’s episode, which was filmed recently.

With his film The Informant premiering soon, Yoo Yeon Seok recently had an interview with Newsen at a café in Samcheon-dong.
When commented that Yoo Yeon Seok’s acting career seems to be split into before and after Reply 1994, he said, “I think since it was a project that received a lot of love, people’s view of me has changed and I have more things to be responsible for.”
Yoo Yeon Seok shared, “I’ve put down a lot of my personal desires. But at the same time, I know that I’m expecting more from myself as an actor. I used to worry, ‘How long will I appear for in this scene?’ and worked hard to show my good acting but now I see the project in a bigger picture.”
As a star receiving spotlights and a man who has entered his 30’s, curiosity arose on his dating life. About dating, Yoo Yeon Seok said, “I think it’s difficult for me to date right now,” and added with a smile, “I will once I have more time to spare but I emotionally don’t have room to relax right now.”
He added, “I have a lot of hobbies so I spend a lot of time alone when I’m home, taking pictures and doing other things but I don’t even have time for that these days. Youth Over Flowers was also my first vacation since I finished Reply 1994, so I really enjoyed taking the trip with the friends I’m close to, but I didn’t know that they would tell me to ‘go away,’” causing laughter.
When asked if he will go public with his relationship once he gets caught, Yoo Yeon Seok said, “I will have to admit it once it’s been revealed,” and laughed.
He then added, “If I really am dating, I have no intention to lie about it. And if it’s revealed by an unknown ‘informant,’ I will have to announce it publicly.”
Yoo Yeon Seok Spills Stories Behind Filming ‘Youth Over Flowers’
Yoo Yeon Seok spilled his thoughts on Youth Over Flowers, which has become yet another representative project of his.
With his film The Informant premiering soon, Yoo Yeon Seok attended an interview with Newsen on September 18 at a café in Samcheong-dong.
Upon hearing that the show became a hit unintentionally at around the same time the movie will premiere, Yoo Yeon Seok responded, “I was really curious to see how it came out and was honestly surprised myself.”
Yoo Yeon Seok said, “I watched the first broadcast with (Son) Ho Jung and the staff members. Baro (B1A4) couldn’t come due to his other schedule but we constantly texted each other. I felt all these emotions because I knew how each situation was like. When an actor watches his movie, he tends to focus on looking his own scenes more closely, as he reminisces the time he filmed them. The same was true for Youth Over Flowers.”
He continued, “I was watching TV in Korea, but I felt as if my body was in Laos. I remembered the time I got shocked because of the hidden camera and felt the emotions I felt back then all over again. I’m anticipating tomorrow’s broadcast too. In the case of movies, you can sort of guess what you will see because there is a scenario butYouth Over Flowers is different. Other than the fact that we had no baggage to carry and had a low budget, it was just like taking a trip so I’m curious to see how I appear.”
Rising to star status after acting as ‘Chil Bong’ in tvN’s Reply 1994, Yoo Yeon Seok showed off his charms through a variety show before presenting another acting project. After just one episode of Youth Over Flowers aired, Yoo Yeon Seok’s popularity rose as the viewers excitedly saw how Yoo Yeon Seok’s actual personality matched that of ‘Chil Bong.’
About this, Yoo Yeon Seok said, “I’m grateful that people are seeing me in a good light. My real name is ‘Ahn Yeon Seok,’ and I was able to live as ‘Ahn Yeon Seok’ instead of Yoo Yeon Seok for a week in Laos. I was worried about how people would take it, but I’m happy for the positive response. But am I really that similar to Chil Bong?”
“I naturally began taking care of Ho Jun and Baro since they were inexperienced in traveling. Ho Jun especially had a hard time adjusting to food. It was only natural for me to take care of Baro because he is young,” said Yoo Yeon Seok.
When commented that not everyone has the sweetness to peeling mangoes for others, Yoo Yeon Seok said, “I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to eat any if I left it up to others. Mangoes were quite hard to peel off. I’ve peeled many fruits until now since I like them but it was my first time peeling mangoes. It was fortunate that I was able to peel them off well.”
“Whether it’s a movie, a drama or a variety show, it’s hard to predict the viewers’ response. So I’m more grateful. I could think of it as luck. But I don’t think I should just take this luck for granted. I will work hard so I can show you my good sides through my hard work.”

His company said that his real name "Ahn Yeon Seok" is kinda hard to pronounce and sounded very much like "Ah Neon Seok" ("Ah, you rascal") lmao. So he wanted to use his mother's surname "Cho" Yeon Seok but afraid that he will be stuck with supporting roles only ("cho yeon" = supporting) (ahahaha), and they come up with "Joo Yeon Seok" (joo yeon = main) but then decided it was too egoistic.
