We'll see if he can change my mind but episode 2 didn't leave me with an interest in him beyond the thought that he doesn't want it enough.

During the episode while Hanbin was giving them real talk Yunhyeong spoke some truth too...

Hongseok: I left after our 3 teams practiced separately.
B.I: Okay. So that means you didn’t practice the dance then. I said at the last recording that you need to practice til 4-5 a.m. before you go.

Yunhyeong: I’m also curious about that. For us three (Yunjundong), if we don’t make it, then we don’t make it. For Junhwe and I, we’ve been here for 2 and a half years. If we don’t make this team then we won’t make it. But you guys have been here for 2-3 months. This is a really good chance for you guys. You can’t just compete with the three of you. sigh, at least Hongseok didn't fight Hanbin and knew he was right (talk about ep 3). I want him in the group cause he fits in visual and his voice has the most potential.

Like Hanbin I wish he had felt it was unfair because that would mean he had been practicing as directed...it's worse that he knows he's wrong. We'll have to see how he improves and how stable he is on stage because right now he's still a karaoke singer.

We must be reading different DC Gall posts and comments in articles because as far as Hongseok is concerned kfans don't feel his desperation or desire to be on the team and really feel bad for Hanbin having to get everyone up to standard.

I mean he's not straight out bad, but he just gives me the wrong vibes. Like the lacking practice, disrespect shown in this vid, that first meeting that had me cringing hard. (Also, correct me if I'm wrong, don't you have to show deference to sunbae trainees even if they're the same age/younger than you? It was just really weird to me that he asked Jinhwan to be friends right away when Jinhwan is supposedly one of the longest-lasting trainees around, idk.)

He's still cute and a decent singer, I guess, but after seeing what OT6 had to go through for WIN..... yeah.

I'm not even a fan and I feel like people are being too hard on this new kid. Yall realize by asking jinhwan to be friends he's just establishing cultural norms/whether he needs to speak in jongdae or banmal, right? It's generally something most people establish on the first time they meet, and since he's older than the rest of the members he needs to get that stuff straight from the get go. Just because he wasnt awkward and shitting his pants like the other two during the first meeting doesn't mean he was rude or deserved the shit they talked about him during the bts interviews. iirc team's b's behavior towards him in his episode is stirring up a lot of controversy for being unnecessarily antagonistic among k-netizens so that says something about how they came across in this episode. im particularly disappointed in junhwe tbh

Honestly, as kid who has NO dancing experience whatsoever and is just getting settled in (into the dorms, filming and practice in general) it's not the end of the world that he left at 1~2am with the rest of the group instead of staying up the whole night. Plus he didn't say anything about Hanbin lecturing him in what was clearly a very brusque way despite being a hyung and apologized promptly without making any excuses. i really don't get the beef people have with him.

Nothing he did was rude...I think the others members just expected the new member to be like Chanwoo + Jinhyeong, who were both painfully shy, obedient and timid. Instead, they found themselves in the presence of someone who was confident, forward and straight with them - which perhaps they didn't feel to be appropriate behavior in that situation (being a newbie).

As for being distant and disengaged at times, I can't say I blame Hongseok tbh...it's very hard to try with people who make it clear that you're the outsider. It's such a pity that he doesn't mesh with the rest of them though, because I think he'd be quite an asset to iKON (visuals and vocal talent). Having said that, if the dynamics between them remain as they were in this episode, then I don't think Hongseok will be in the group. Anyone that adversely affects their teamwork, unfortunately, can't stay.
