Orange Caramel’s Nana: “Girls Don’t Like Me Because of My Aegyo”

Orange Caramel‘s Nana has opened up about her use of aegyo (acting cute) that tends to divide opinions.

Nana, Lizzy and Raina, the three members of the After School sub-group, were guests on SBS PowerFM’s “Choi Hwa Jung’s Power Time” on August 25 to promote their latest single “My Copycat” and discuss their unique style of music.

As Orange Caramel is well known for their bright and cute style, DJ Choi Hwa Jung told Nana, “It feels like aegyo comes to you naturally.”

“It is instinctive, but as I am pretty reserved and short-spoken on TV, I am asked to raise the mood with my aegyo, and sometimes I go slightly overboard,” Nana replied.

She continued, laughing, “Girls really dislike me for my use of aegyo. Their reaction is, ‘What are you doing to our oppas?’” and explained that fans of male celebrities tend to turn protective when seeing Nana act cute in front of their favorite idols.

“While watching ‘Roommate,’ I noticed that I aegyo often comes to me naturally. However, as I have aegyo and a high-pitched voice, people seem to think that everything I say is filled with aegyo,” Nana added, pointing out that some viewers might have overestimated her intentional use of aegyo.

people hate her because she's drop-dead-gorgeous and doesn't seem like a brainless, helpless little girl. also because she placed "#2 most beautiful woman in the world" in an international magazine and their basic faves can never. she got hate for being "too cold", and now she's "too cheerful". there is just no pleasing some people.

ugh i don't like this whole women are just jealous of you because you're pretty bs, women like pretty people. this generalization that women are just jealous bitches is just incredibly sexist. people don't like nana because her aegyo is forced (especially when she pulls the whole 'i always had this much aegyo' shindig when years ago she complained about how her agency is forcing her to do it) and the stuff she does would be just as annoying if someone else did it.

she's pretty. and people don't seem to realize that nana was pretty fucking popular among girls because she was gorgeous (she still is) and it's only after her variety appearance that this "hate" is coming on.

I think they are more angry she is "stealing" Oppars attention.

Everyone reacts differently, when I see another female that looks amazing I become a fangirl!
For me I get jealous over other things such as, people born into good families, and people that have raw natural talents that een if you trained and studied for you could never get. I'm mostly jealous of artists, because I wish I could do more.
