Here's a fanaccount of someone who was there. I read about how calm it was (prior to watching these videos) and that there wasn't a lot of pushing around but that obviously wasn't the case. They're gonna be in the US for a while so I can only hope fans will stop embarrassing themselves (NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR YOU SCREAM OPPA) and inconveniencing the group and the staff by stalking them throughout their stay. Ugh if it's this messy at the airport I can only imagine what it'll be like at K-Con.

Omg that video grated on my nerves. I was embarrassed as an American, that they still had to deal with that over here. What was even worse was that the fangirl filming would say stuff like how awkward it was or that maybe the boys felt squished. Like What the heck do you think? Your face is practically in Kookie's back- give them space! I'm grateful there wasn't pushing and shoving, but following on their heels and obnoxiously screaming oppa oppa is still not a good look.

edit: Just saw the 3rd video, and I'm disgusted. The girl said "Ooh I touched one. I dunno which one, but at least I got someone. Good enough." Or something like that. SMH

what really got me heated was that one girl who touched both taehyung and namjoon without their consent. like..... why would you do that? that's so fucking creepy and just ugh

this video is unlisted but this girl tries to justify herself by saying she said sorry for making them uncomfortable but didn't move and inch from where she was anyway. poor namjoon had to say it's OK and now fans are running with it and saying that they were ok by being mauled. i'm so upset.

Ha they're basically like "We don't mean to make you uncomfortable but let me continue shoving my camera/phone in your face!" Every time madness ensues when fans greet idols at the airport they emphasize that ~they just wanted to give the members a warm welcome~ to their country when it's possible to do that without coming across as a total creep.

And I can't believe people are using this as an excuse to say the members are rude and unfriendly for not waving/smiling/accepting gifts.

I really hope fans don't go and stalk them when they're out and about. They are gonna be here for 3 weeks and I want them to be able to do touristy stuff. Go eat, take pictures, visit famous places here, hell I even want them to go to Six Flags since I love Amusement Parks. I want them to enjoy Cali! but with fucking fans overstepping their boundaries, none of that is gonna happen and they're going to be counting down the days that they can return to Korea u.u

I'm so glad I didn't go to the airport to see them. I wouldn't be able to handle seeing that mess of a crowd in person

It's amazing how a lot of Ifans like to complain about sasaengs but apparently if an idol is in their country, it's completely fine to carry out the same behaviour. Yes, you can go to the airport to greet your idols, but make sure you don't act like a creep and make them feel uncomfortable instead. Rolling my eyes at anyone trying to justify their behaviour by saying that Rap Mon said it was okay. What do you expect him to say?????

i was inclined to agree with the first part, but then the rest of your paragraph went to horse shit.

1. international fans have the right to judge korean fandoms for the behaviour, and korean fans have the right to judge international fans right back if they feel the need to. they do not cancel each other out, and neither requires more attention than the other. this and this alone is a hypocritical cycle, but it won't ever go away. not all international fans are the same, and not all korean fans are the same: this has been established again and again and again.

2. there is a difference between going to see idols at the airport with the intention of just seeing them, and going with the intention of swarming them. there is a difference between a crowd, and then a swarm.

3. you can complain about airport photos and fans going to airports all you want to but at some point in your kpop interests you ate those airport photos up like they were fucking hotcakes. please don't start.

4. let me just point out that crowding in airports is not the fault of everyone in that vicinity. usually the fans who are pushed the closest to the idols didn't intend on being there in the first place, nor do they want to be there. it is accidental, it happens. there is a difference between fans who want to get close and fans who happen to get close. i realize that intent =/= impact, but a few can ruin it for many, and a few can improve it for many.

i don't condone going to airports for idols, but i also don't condemn the fans that do decide to go if they have good intentions and an idea of what personal space looks like.

I will never understand the appeal of crowding around an idol at an airport ever in my life. This is the most stupid thing, and it very rarely turns out positive for both sides.

It's usually a guessing game and fans will camp at the airport just to catch any possible flight coming in from the country of origin based on when they departed. But sometimes event organizers release the flight info to encourage fans to greet the groups. I think I've read that some companies release the timings too but I don't have a source for that.

If they are ever flying into the airport in my city I dream of personally going to set up a barricade, giving the waiting fans a stern prep lecture about respect and good manners, and bringing along a few of my larger cousins just in case. One of them is even a Mountie, he can wear his red jacket and politely guide any strays back behind the barricade. It will all be very Canadian lol
