Nana Responds to Negative Feedback on Her TV Appearances

On the June 22 broadcast of SBS’ variety program “Roommate,” After School’s Nana confessed, “I thought I was putting in effort, but people would say ‘She’s showing off,’ whenever I show aegyo or try to brighten up the atmosphere,” during a conversation with actress Hong Soo Hyun.

Nana continued, “Even I think it might be hard to get used to the way I am, but there are so many negative responses saying things like, ‘Why is she like that?’ I normally don’t pay attention to [netizen] comments, but after appearing on ‘Roommate’ and ‘Style Log,’ at the same time, I’ve started to worry [about it]. I’m becoming more timid.”


She also shared, “I have to think a lot before I say anything now. I’m human, so I can’t help feeling a bit scared. I don’t have the courage to let negative words go in one ear and out the other, and continue being my usual self. It’s one of my biggest concerns these days.”

In an interview with producers, Nana revealed, “I’m really trying my best. Honestly, I’ve tried to show my real, natural self, but it seems people don’t view it in a good light. I started ‘Roommate’ to show my true self, without faking anything. I hope people see me more positively.”

Whenever I see complaints about her I'm reminded of girls who say they prefer being friends with guys because there's less drama~~~

I don't watch the show so I'm only basing it on comments I've read but why is it when Bom does something it's "cute and 4D XD" but Nana isn't genuine and is just vying for the guys' attention???

Ehhh I feel like im going to be the minority here. truthfully nana is one of my least fav haracters on roommate. it's her interaction/persona that bothers me. she's a pretty girl and im sure a very intelligent one so theres no need for her to act dingy or super overly hyper shes in her 20's BUT I think that has to do more with my dislike for aegyo than anything else. that being said no reason for her to be worried about it. most netizens are 13 year old students with nothing else to do

Honestly it's not just the fact that she's pretty..... the other girls on roommate are super pretty as well but for the most part I find them more likeable. I don't know what it is about Nana but she just gives off the air that she knows she's super pretty and uses it to her advantage against guys, all her life etc etc.

I didn't really know anything about Nana before Roommate, but I've really liked her on the show. I've seen a lot of comments about how fake and vapid she is, but I've never really gotten that vibe from her. Sure, she's silly and sometimes says/does things that deserve an eyeroll, but she seems pretty genuine to me, and I get the feeling she's a lot smarter than people give her credit for.

I love her but her aegyo voice makes me shudder (though that's definitely not a reason to be mean to her). Don't most netizens have a problem with her speaking banmal to those older than her? I thought that was the main criticism they had.

Whatever the reason, it's a shame she has to dim herself to appease other people :((
