G.NA Is Underweight and Has Serious Jaw Problem According to Doctors in “Vitamin”

The latest episode of KBS 2TV “Vitamin” talked about temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and found out the condition of the guests’ jaws on the show through various tests. In the show, G.NA was diagnosed with a severe case of TMD.

In a previous guesting in “Vitamin,” G.NA was warned that she is severely underweight for her age and in this episode, G.NA confirms the doubts that she has regarding her problems with her teeth as she is diagnosed with a serious TMD.

“I’m currently undergoing treatment at the dentist for my teeth, but I didn’t imagine that I could have a problem like TMD,” says G.NA who became suddenly worried about the results of the tests.

“In G.NA’s case, her molars at both sides are not good and she cannot properly chew food. Because of this, her jaw abnormally applies force and shows an unstable location. It’s important that she picks up the practice of chewing on both sides and has combined treatment for her overbite and teeth in the earliest possible time,” advises Professor Jeon Yang Hyeon of Kyunghee University Dental Hospital, Department of Oral Medicine.

This episode of “Vitamin” will aried on April 30, 8:55 p.m. (KST) at KBS. Other guests include Lee Hye Jeong, Seo Kwon Soon, Kim Saeng Min, Lim Hyuk Pil, Hong Dae Gwang, and Nana and Lizzy of Orange Caramel.

yea i get the concept of testing blood for stuff like testosterone (which is what they did for suju and was the only episode i watched)

but something that could bring a lot of worry and further treatment, should it really be discussed so openly?
i get that gna probably gave consent but still, idk it bothers me a bit :S

but seriously, my mom and I both have TMD/TMJ and it's hardly a "serious problem". my jaw painlessly pops occasionally if I'm eating something that requires me to open my mouth wide, like a large sandwich, but that's all. Dentists have always told me that it's not worth the trouble of fixing it or my severe overbite because it would mean breaking my jaw and resetting it. I can eat just fine. Unless hers is severe where her jaw will lock (unlikely since she didn't know there was an issue) she's probably fine. These doctor shows just make everyone paranoid!

i'm happy yours isn't serious but people are not the same? i have tmd and at some point it was so bad i couldn't even think because it hurt everyday, i also couldn't eat because i couldn't open my mouth more than 2 cms. i actually had to take 2 years off my uni (which made me very depressed at the time & i couldn't even go outside cause i felt so shitty) and go through physical therapy every week until i got better...

I know everyone's case isn't the same, and yours sounds terrible and I'm sorry if I offended you, but I was just saying that if she didn't even know there was an issue with her jaw then it's likely hers isn't serious. I shouldn't have said anything.

Mine was pretty bad as well for a while, spent 5 hours every morning unable to eat because I couldn't open my mouth like you said, and it would finally open up in the afternoon with massaging and hot presses...
It seems to have gone away somewhat by itself after a few years but I still wake up with lock jaw if I sleep on my right side or get random painful popping when I yawn some days.

after i got better my doctor would always tell me to not open my mouth too wide when yawning or generally not open my mouth too wide at all so my articular disc won't dislocate again. also try to not sleep on your side too much so it won't put much pressure on your jaw. please take care, ok?

I'll definitely avoid doing those things although I enjoy sleeping on my side :c I only sleep on my left side tho because the right side is where I have the issue. Thank you :')

I'm guessing that the jaw problem might be connected to the underweight problem. I know there is pressure on idols when it comes to weight, but I was thinking if she has problems eating due to her jaw then that could contribute to her health issue.

I have TMD, had braces to fit my bite (which sucked), and I am underweight for my height and age. I try to gained weight but I am not gaining much pounds so far.

i have secondary tmj, so it isnt as severe but it can be such a pain in the ass sometimes. i get the worst headaches because of the popping/cracking and if i'm not careful and open my mouth to wide while eating, i will be in pain for the next week. plus after i wake up, my jaw is stuck and the popping is so painful bleh. i had no clue what i had in the beginning so i just popped my jaw all the time and it has become a habit now (kinda like nailbiting idk), so that is def not helping. i try to avoid eating gum or chewy meat or chewy food in general, and i massage my temples or the area underneath my earlobe whenever i think of it. hope for G.NA that she doesn't have it or at least not a severe case. i feel like they shouldnt display it out in the open like that though hmm

and she has been very skinny since 2 Hot, but i dont want to be the one making hastily assumptions (looking @ dumb youtube and forum comments talking about anorexia, because assuming that kind of stuff is not okay). i just hope she's healthy but idk

Maybe age is a factor because children/teens tend to be very skinny, but that doesn't have to be alarming since they have a lot of exercise and play outside all the time? Idk

Ya, I feel like I remember her being on another show with a doctor and them telling her she was underweight. These kpop idols seems to take being underweight as a compliment though so ya :-|

Sat through a lecture on TMD yesterday, oddly enough.

Seconding poster above, if she didn't know about it it isn't going to be a serious issue. Some people get really bad issues with it depending on where it is/what the triggers for it are but overall it isn't that serious, just mostly inconvenient. But she's under a dentist so it's all good at least.

I am with other people though, sharing something like this with someone for the first time on a TV show is really..:/ It rubs me up the wrong way.

I have the same problems with my jaw and it's a mess and causes daily discomfort and a variety of issues. It happened after I got my teeth and my wisdom teeth removed.
