FT Island, Plagiarizes From English Band?

FT Island gets involved in plagiarism issues with song from their new album.

According to a particular discussion forum, there were criticisms saying that “Bing Bing Bing“, song from FT Island’s 3rd album, resembles English band, McFly’s “Five Colours In Her Hair“.

Some netizens uploaded both songs on blogs and communities, and pointed out that the interlude for both songs are similar.

However, based on the tele-conversation between FT Island’s management and one of the reporters, they revealed that they “didn’t know about it” and that they will investigate the issue and give their stand.

According to the Korea Music Copyright Association, the composer for “Bing Bing Bing” was registered under the name “HOONY”, and without any statements of samplings or remakes of the song.

Apparently a fan (or maybe more) filed a complaint to Mcfly's management (from what I read) and they're probably screwed if it turns out to be plagarized..

All that will matter is that they'll have to pay some form of royalties. And it won't really land on the band, just on the management/composer of the song.

They will still get a bad name though since they're the ones performing. Us fans would definitely let it pass since we know they have little to do with the song, but some people don't.

to me, the songs are not as similar as some mcfly fans are making it out to be.

I don't hear the similarity outside the guitar riff in the beginning, honestly. It's inevitable that songs are gonna sound like each other in some way or another, but to outright call it plagiarism is stupid. I doubt the boys and the management would go that far. |:

i used to listen to 5 colors in her hair a lot (was a mcfly fan for like 2 years... lol), and bing bing bing did not remind me of that song at all. well it might be just me, they don't even sound similar to me. i don't understand how people can make such a big deal out of this. :S

I heard the similarities the first time I heard "Bing Bing Bing", but I didn't think it was too similar to actually be considered plagiarism.

WOAH I'm a fan of mcfly and I never even noticed how similar they sound, they defininitely do though, omg. I don't think it's PLAGIARISM though. They just sound alike.

Sorry but this is just really funny to me I don't even get why. I think I'm gonna have to have a mcfly marathon, and dig out my autographed cd to reminisce being a diehard fan.

Damn the only thing that seems the same is the beginning and the only thing thats the same is the background sounds.
There are 1012048707,93177 other songs that look the same so why make a CHAOS about another one?

MCfly works for themselves and FT Island have a company behind them so why make a big fuss and break something?

Honestly, there are TONNES of songs that sound similar in certain parts of the songs, even when they are NOT sampled/covered/whatever.
But they aren't plagarism.

while I, like many others here, enjoy loling over the netizens who cry plagiarism, people need to realize that in some cases, it is actually plagiarism. these two songs are very alike, and it isn't just a "resemblance", there are key melodies and aspects of the two songs that are obviously the same. plagiarism goes beyond just having the same lyrics; there is certainly more to steal from a song than just the words.

I know the plagiarism accusation is tossed around way too freely by netizens, but let's be honest here: a lot of stuff in kpop is plagiarized. most of it isn't, but some of it is. and the people whose ideas are ripped off definitely have the right to make a fuss over it.

wow thank you! i was given shit here for saying they ripped off the intro, i'm a fan of both bands but whoever wrote fti's version clearly stole it from mcfly and there is no doubt about it.

it is only the intro so i don't really believe it's a big deal but credit should be given where it's due, etc etc.

if you've watched any korean tv show's or dramas you will notice they actually use busted and mcfly songs quite a lot, it makes me lol idk why, just weird having old fandoms collide.
