More "Thirst" from San Diego Comic Con

Old news is still news! I was one of the lucky people to attend the "Thirst" panel at Comic Con a week ago.

Some notes from the interview (yes, I actually took notes):

- Originality - how could he make an original vampire movie so a movie studio would buy into it? He didn't use clichevampire lore, so his vampires don't have fangs, they do have reflections, crosses don't matter, etc.

- Director Park has sympathy for vampires because of their restrictions (diet, no sunlight)

- The panel with "Twilight" was earlier that day, so is this movie the anti-Twilight? Park said he wouldn't call it anti-Twilight or else his daughter was be mad (lol). He also had a story about how he made "I'm a Cyborg, but That's OK" for his daughter who only thought it was "OK".

- Identity - the priest must choose between priest and vampire, but he tries to hold onto both identities. Park also questions whether the priest should feel guilt for drinking blood because he was formally a noble person. Also he made an interesting connection between the wine at Catholic mass and drinking blood as a vampire. (I won't go into details, but feel free to ask in you're curious).

I hauled my booty to get up to the front row. The room was huge (holds like 6000+ people?) and I wasn't about to sit in the back. :P

I loved his translator! After the movie Thirst when you got to like take your pic with Chan-Wook, some guy was talking to him in Korean and the translator was like "Wow, his Korean is really good. He should be doing this instead of me!" and he was also convincing someone to go up and get their pic taken with Chan-Wook and stop being shy!!

I don't know much about Anne Rice's books (I feel like I should though).
I'll trying to keep this concise and on point with what Park said -- Really it was just a comparison of his role as a priest and his role as a vampire. I'm not sure how up you are on Catholic masses, but the wine represents Jesus's blood. His sacrifice was for all people, and now the priest is sacrificing people to fulfill his bloodlust. So he's going against his human nature and job as a priest to save people with blood (wine) and taking their blood. So then Park put forth the question of should the priest feel upset about this clash of personalities?

that's my plan, too! i'm in uni now and i'm gonna see if maybe in the spring or next summer i can do a few weeks in, preferably, japan. that'd be hard bc most of what i want to do requires you to be at least passable in japanese and i'd have only started my classes this coming semester D: i'd like to go to south korea, too, but.. well i'm poor lol. i'd hate to have to choose between the two; both countries are ones i'd love to visit for an extended period of time in my life.
