CNBLUE-FT-Island-Hongki_1369264153_af_org

It's no secret that F.T. Island get compared to their labelmates CNBLUE, and Hongki finally came out to reveal his frustration about it.

On the May 22nd broadcast of MBC's 'Radio Star', the MCs jokingly poked fun at the rivalry between the two groups a few times throughout the show. Kyuhyun said "Does it bother you that I'm good friends with CNBLUE?" and Yoon Jong Shin added, "Does CNBLUE get on your nerves?"

Hongki responded, "Oh no. You know, I don't concern myself too much with what CNBLUE is doing. We are doing our own things separately, and it's all fine, but people keep bringing it up and that's what makes it awkward! Sometimes they'll get to do something, and it's good because it just serves to motivate us to work hard as well."

The MCs then took a stab at their maknae Kyuhyun, saying, "Super Junior are also very wary of SHINee," teasing him about the rivalry between the SM Entertainment labelmates. Kyunhyun joked, "Ah, I hope SHINee will turn out well," like the sunbae that he is, and the MCs commented, "Actually SHINee is worried about you," bringing laughter with the banter.

Later in the show, Hongki was once again asked to elaborate when the MCs asked, "Although F.T. Island is the one that paved the way, it seems like CNBLUE has become quite big, and your agency seems to cater to them more these days. Do you feel any discontentment about that?"

Hongki honestly answered, "There was one incident recently. We have managers, road managers, all the way up to executives, who all differ in rank. Usually when a group travels overseas for a promotion, almost everyone goes. However, we had a concert in China, and only two road managers came with us. CNBLUE had a concert in Singapore around the same time, and the president as well the vice president went there. I did feel upset and called up our boss right away, and he explained that it was because for our event, they contracted an overseas company who was in charge of taking care of us while we were there. But he did give me an apology."

The topic then turned to whether Hongki had revealed that CNBLUE's Jonghyun received cosmetic surgery on his ear on purpose to get back at the "rival" band, and the idol denied that was the case and even sent a video message to Jonghyun and Jonghyun's father, apologizing about the ear incident. However, the MCs then commented, "Oh, now through this broadcast, even more people will know about it," and Hongki gasped at the revelation, closing the topic with laughter.

Hongki featured as guests with his co-stars from the new film 'Passionate Goodbye', Lim Won Hee, Baek Jin Hee, and Shim Yi Young.

What do you think of this labelmate rivalry?

I think it's bullshit. There should not be rivalry between them -they're from the same compagny, they are two different kind of rock bands- and if there is any rivalry, it's a problem from the management. They don't have to "play the rivalry game" it's stupid.
And I'm glad he did call the boss right away. It's better to talk about something upsetting once it's still there, than keeping all the frustration.

I agree about it being good he called the boss right away, that's the mature way of dealing with issues and it's a good indication that they will hopefully have healthy relationship in the company.
I also don't really see there being a need for rivalry as both bands have quite distinct sounds and styles and for me them being in the same company makes me more likely to want to support both groups.

I also hope this way of dealing with issues is going to raise the problem inside the management, and make them think about it a bit more. I can understand when groups have more comebacks if they compose songs or just manages to record their album/are a better marketing option. But having such inequal treatments with the people surrondings, that's just mean.

Me too ! I heard about FT first, but didn't pay attention until I started to like CN Blue. It helped me listening and really appreciate what FT has been doing. They should be complementary, bringing a complete different sound to the k-pop scene (especially thinking about the guitars and all lol) rather than pushing on group more than the other!

I wouldn't be surprised if there's some rivalry between them, but I think it'll stem more so from how the management runs thing. I don't really follow CN Blue and FTI, but it seems like FNC has a bias toward CN Blue, at least according this article. http://netizenbuzz.blogspot.com/2013/04/instiz-primadonnas-call-out-fncs-bias.html
If there's unequal treatment, I think there's bound to be some feelings of conflict/ rivalry among the two groups.

Yeah that's why I called management problem. I read all the articles about it (I'm also a bit CN-biased but I love some FT's songs). I hope it's not to the point the members feel bad about themselves and towards the other group, because that kind of rivalry is never doing any good...

is CNB more popular?

i THINK musically i prefer CNB? their music is very similar, IMO...

but i hongki's voice >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> yonghwa's

good lawd, some times it's hard for me to get through CNB live because i find his voice really heavy and nasally.

hongki has the voice of an angel. *___*

Hongki's voice is so gorgeous and has so much power when he puts it to good use, especially when he's singing in a lower key.

I feel weird because while I like Hongki's voice I've never really fallen for it. Yonghwa has a rough-ish voice but he can do so much with it. His Because I miss you lives can really move me.

I've always loved both their voices but I agree wholeheartedly with what you say about Yonghwa's voice, he really can do so much with it and bring out many different colours in his voice :) And those Because I miss you performances move my heart too!

Yeah, right now CNB is more popular. But at the height of their popularity, FTI is way way more popular than CNB can ever get tbh. The problem begins when we started to see the favouritism that the management have towards CNB. You can read it more here: http://omonatheydidnt.livejournal.com/11004715.html

The comments are very insightful too since you can see how FTI used to be so successful until FNC screwed them up with their lousy decisions.

But all is good since FTI & CNB remains close. Plus, they seemed to be more happy and have a rather stable career at Japan. Everyone loves to compare them but they didn't seemed to be bothered by it.

what cosmetic surgery?

but anyway, it just seems like yonghwa pushes for things more than jonghoon does.i feel like part of cn blue's success can be attributed to yonghwa.

but who knows, maybe their ceo really does favor cn blue more than ft island.

Ear reshaping lol.

Yonghwa does push, they were never gonna get a self composed song if Yonghwa hadn't pushed it for a year. He really fights for it.

But no denying the CEO really has a warm spot for CNB.

I think Jonghyun and Yonghwa get their own slot so they both decide what they want. But I agree, their styles compliment each other.

I prefer F.T. Island's music, though I must admit that CNBlue guys are good looking than the former.

He reacted well, I think it was a bit rude to bring up Yonghwa all the time during the show tbh. But I just tend to be really pressed about CNBlue being more popular than FTI lol I know it's ridiculous, and they deserve the attention because they're talented too but I can't help it haha.
And Hongki has one of the best voices in Kpop, he's just phenomenal live

Really? CN Blue makes good music and I think they are a really likable group with good chemistry. I feel like with FT Island it's all about Hongki though I know there are other member's. And you are right, Hongki is one of the best voices in Korea which makes me feel that his popularity sometimes outshines the whole band together. I like both groups because they have different styles (minus songs that might sound similar)....

BTW...Bless your beautiful icon of Mr. Haruma....

Yes I think CNBlue is really loveable, that's why I say my "jealousy" is ridiculous! haha
I also feel the same way about Hongki, his personality and presence is really strong and it could be overwhelming for some people, I agree that CNB's chemistry is more obvious

CNblue are definitely more goodlooking on average but Jonghoon trumps everybody else so FTI!
And i like FTI's really emotionally painful ballads which are made even more glorious because of Hongki's voice.
CNBlue's music sounds all alike to me.

wait sorry totally different topic. Jonghyun had ear surgery? Why?! Was it ever noticeable?

I agree. Jonghoon is simply one of the most good looking guys in K-Pop. With his charming personality, you can see why he is such a player.

I super love FTI's rock ballads -- that's the reasons why I stan their music so much. They simply among the few groups in K-Pop that I truly like because of their music. I can simply listen to their albums over and over again the whole day long.

The problem that I have with CNB is also because their music sounds all alike to me too. And the randon words & english in their songs proved to be the reasons too. xD

There's no rivalry, there's only discontent towards their management. I wish people would stop pitting them against each other when Yonghwa and Hongki have shown nothing but friendship towards eachother.

the company isn't a parent who shouldn't favor a sibling over the other , it's a business. I think it's ridiculous to expect the president and the vice president to attend their thing when cnblue are the company's breadwinner, it seems prideful . the compony shouldn't cater to the "sunbae" over the more successful hoobae.

the thing is FNC doesn't work like that, the boys are really close with their upper management and they're more like family
i saw a pic of FNC's vice president piggy backed hongki

The problem is that FTI used to be the breadwinner and if you follow them from early on, you can see how they are very popular at the height of their popularity. The awards that they won during their debut year is more than you can imagine.

The problem that fans seemed to have is that after CNB debuted, their management seemed to cast FTI aside -- promotion wise & everything... We just expect FNC to be more professional and handle both of the groups equally since if they didn't messed up, both groups can be popular at the same time. FTI has done it before so it should be no problem for them to repeat the same success again -- with the right support from their management.

I used to like FTI but after WonBin left i cant seemed to like their music. It does bother me that they keep comparing them because CNBLUE&FTI have a brotherly friendship and i think this interv was a bit rude, like they were instigating Hongki to say something juicy.

Really? Their music stays the same without a doubt. I hate it too when Wonbin left (he's my favorite & his unique rap will always makes him special) but I love the group and their music and Jump Up proved to be a very excellent mini to start off their journey without Wonbin. Plus, I never thought I'm gonna fall so much with Seunghyun's rap & voice. ^^
