'The Host 2' in Development
2009-07-22 02:16 pmThe sequel to "The Host," a 2006 monster movie directed by Bong Joon-ho, has attracted an investment of $5 million from Singapore's Media Development Authority and Boku Films, production firm Chungeorahm Film said yesterday.
Chungeorahm held a signing ceremony for the investment deal with Boku Films at the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival. The joint investment by Boku and MDA will account for the half of the entire production cost.
"The Host," starring award-winning actor Song Kang-ho, sold a record 13 million tickets in Korea, and the sequel, titled "The Host 2," is drawing keen attention both at home and abroad.
SK Telecom, the country's biggest mobile carrier, has also invested in the sequel project, reflecting the popularity of the original flick.
"The Host," released on a record number of screens here in July 2006, is the highest grossing Korean film of all time.
