A manager who threatened his actor with videos he took of the actor engaging in homosexual acts was indicted by prosecution.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors′ Office revealed on March 20 that it had booked manager Mr. Gu, as well as another manager Mr. Baek, for blackmailing an actor into paying 4 million won using the videos.

The managers were in charge of guarding the actor and driving him around, and so lived with the actor at his home. When the actor continued to engage in sexual contact with Baek, the two purchased a pen camera through the internet and filmed the actor while he was engaging in homosexual acts in August 2010.

The two then sent a CD containing the videos to the actor′s parents, saying that they would turn over the original files in exchange for 500 million won.

Following the threat, the actor sent Gu 4 million won, but they did not stop and continued to threaten him, sending over 45 text messages.

Two managers who tried to blackmail a top star for participating in homosexual activity have been indicted by the prosecutors.

According to the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office, ”Mr. Gu” and “Mr. Baek” blackmailed actor “Mr. Park” (44) for 4 million KRW (approximately $3,600 USD) after filming his homosexual acts. Mr. Gu has been imprisoned as he is currently being investigated, and Mr. Baek is being actively investigated without imprisonment.

There are videos of Mr. Park and Mr. Baek kissing included, which Mr. Baek and Mr. Gu discretely took footage of with a ballpoint pen camera that they bought together online.

Mr. Gu sent the CDs containing the footage to Mr. Park’s parents, and demanded 500 million KRW (approximately $450,000 USD). Mr. Park gave 4 million KRW at the initial demands, but they continued to blackmail him. Mr. Park then reported them to the police after receiving 45 blackmailing text messages.

This is awful. I feel terrible for whoever this actor is. He was probably incredibly hurt (if he had real feelings for Baek), and scared out of his mind.

As much as I want to know who the actor is, I think I'd rather not have it figured out. This poor guy has been through enough without seeing his career go down the drain too.

It's nice that it seems like it didn't come out after all... but why did they give Mr. Park's age!??!? >.>

That's exactly what I thought! Why use false names and then include a major identifying detail like that? The paper didn't give the ages of either manager so it looks like a deliberate move to get the actor IDed. Gross.

Ugh when this article first came out the entire thing was in initials, which is what it should have stayed as now there are last names being thrown around, which narrows the victim down quite a bit. i don't think this man will be able to avoid outing. :/

Omg I hope not. Most of the netizen comments I have seen have been pleading for people not to do this bc they know how hard it is to be outed in Korea so hopefully this will dissuade people from spreading any possible leads as to his identity. Then again the media has already released his last name occupation and age so it may only be a matter of time. :(

that's really sick :/ blackmailing anyone for this in the first place is awful but to get involved with someone and lead them on then turn around and do that... stupidly gross. I hope netizens don't figure out who he is, he's been through enough already

How utterly despicable they both are.

That poor man, it's obviously hard enough to be gay in SK, and having to hide it without people you thought you could trust using you like this.

I hope they both go to jail for a long time and that "Mr Park" doesn't suffer too much in his career over this.

Oh, I know, but assuming the only thing that ever got out was videos of him kissing the evil manager... the top-rated comments are all sympathetic to his plight. Maybe the idea was that he was "tempted" and will be living a more moral life from now on, but either way... Hoya got a career boost from playing a gay teen in a drama, BL is popular in Korea, there's at least a little space for mild, fantasy gayness. Nothing will change as long as everyone thinks that being outed is 100% career suicide.

From: [identity profile] she-devil666.livejournal.com
except they seem to like the IDEA of it rather than the REALITY. i've seen plenty of comments saying 'please stop saying such and such is gay! they aren't!!' as if they know really. if even the international fans, who claim to be so open and accepting, can't even imagine their faves being gay think of what the korean fans are like? those fans who can turn in an instant and be harsh and hateful on the dumbest of stuff.

sure, in a perfect world (as far as korea is concerned anyway), being outed or outing yourself wouldn't be a career killer but it's not and i still think korea has a ways to go before they start accepting openly gay celebs

ext_1502: (Default)
From: [identity profile] sub-divided.livejournal.com
Oh yeah, agreed. I've seen those comments too. The really mind-blowing ones are from fans who 'ship' group members together but still think it's gross to be gay for real. How does that makes sense?? (In a world where the stars aren't real people but puppets for your amusement, it makes a little bit of sense, I suppose.)

So I guess I think you're right that "being gay" won't help anyone's career, I just wish it were otherwise. As long as people believe that you can't ever have any kind of gay taint on you at all, and still have a career as a public figure, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

From: [identity profile] she-devil666.livejournal.com
I agree nothing will happen if that way of thinking continues but this is something I think Korea needs to be baby-stepped with. I mean, it wasn't that long ago when celebs in the US were afraid to come out for the same reason (some still are) so it definitely isn't a Korea only issue.

This disgusting. To lead the person on and then blackmail him is despicable. Poor Mr Park, to be betrayed by the person you trust is terrible. I hope they found enough evidence to nail both both Mr Gu and Mr Baek and put them behind bars.

I hope Mr Park will be able to keep his identity from being found out.

That its be so upsetting, especially since it was done by people you trust - which makes the betrayal even more of a knife in the back. I also think it must have been pretty shocking for the parents to receive that footage, especially when (maybe) you were completely in the dark about your son's sexual orientation.

these type of people are just disgusting.

and whoever reported this using their last names is an asshole too. other articles call people 'A' and 'B' and so forth but it seems like they're helping him but not really. they gave the last names of not only the victim (and his age!) but his tormentors. if the netizens are nosy enough they can probably figure it out and quite possibly out him. 'cause i mean, their detective skills top notch :/

thats bold as fuck. I really hope people don't snoop, he has already been damaged enough having been outed to his parents, blackmailed and then possible played romantically by someone he could have had feelings for. I hope people think about what he has gone through first and not their own curiosity.
