Although there are those who pay no attention to the overly used middle finger, there are also those who take it as no laughing matter. Thus, it is not surprising that SHINee‘s Onew‘s recent appearance on a radio broadcast has sparked some criticism.
On the March 18th broadcast of ‘Younha’s Starry Night‘, Some of the SHINee members featured as guests to talk about their comeback and touch upon various subjects. Prior to the members’ introductions, their faces were not shown during this particular segment on camera, but netizens spotted someone giving his middle finger on screen. The color and print of the mystery man’s outfit later pointed the identity to Onew, raising eyebrows.
Netizens flocked to the comment boards and expressed their shock responding, “Since it is a radio broadcast that can be seen, it was careless of him to stick up the middle finger”, “Why is he doing that when he knows there is a camera?”, “I don’t know if it’s because Onew always had an innocent image, but I’m disappointed”, “Can it really be Onew?” and more.
However, there were others that came to his defense with comments like, “Isn’t he just joking around? He probably didn’t realize that could be seen”, “It seems like Onew was just playing around with his members”, “It might just be another sign that shows just how close he is with his members” and more.
As you know, this isn’t the first time that an idol star was criticized for giving the middle finger as of recently, as Jay Park previously received backlash for his Instagram picture.

I, personally, am not offended by it. In fact, I find it quite hilarious, that Onew.. Lee Jinki.. was the first one to give SHINee a "scandal". Regardless, it's not the end of the world, he's not a delinquent all of the sudden, and I'm certain it won't happen again. Life moves on.

And to those idiots who think he's flipping off the host, I think it's quite obvious that gesture was directed at whoever was across the table from him that he was talking to at that point, especially when you look at the direction his hands are pointing in about 4 seconds after. Ah, if only their mics were on! I'd love to know what comment sparked that! XD
"No way, doesn't he know that this radio's recorded?" All I have to say is that maybe he didn't think the cameras would be on since the audio part of the broadcast hadn't started yet? *Shrugs* Just a thought~
I may be an MVP/Onew stan, but I'm not delusional. He's a guy. He's gonna do shit like this. He's still human, and this just proves it.
Sadly, I think that some higher-up is gonna make him apologize publicly for that because in weird ways, South Korea's culture is more reserved. (Though it's OK for girls to do hyper-sexy dances on TV... But that's another can of worms for another time.)
I've seen some reactions where people think he was flipping off Jonghyun. I saw a comment that was, "...and who hasn't flipped off Jonghyun before?!" XDD So true!
