SM Entertainment roped in 'Joombas Music Factory' to produce Shinee's title track 'Dream girl'. Their youtube channel released a video showing how Shinee's 'Dream Girl' was made under the Music Producer Hyuk Shin.
cool! i've always been interested in the production side of music. dream girl is such an amazing track, it took me 3 listens to fully get into it and that's definitely a lot better for me than an instant reaction.
i've made the same experience with dream girl. when i like a song from the getgo it's worn out fast, but when i get into a song after several listens it sticks with me longer.
this is so cool! i learned how to do this on a really small, basic level for a course i took in college but i wasn't very good at it, lol. this would be such a cool job to have. ;A; and it's interesting to see all the layers of sound that went into the song. electronic music is honestly much more complex than most people give it credit for. one of my favorite artists is little boots, and she puts so many layers into her tracks, it's like every synthesizer has its own voice. super awesome.
does anyone feel that at the end of dream girl, there should have been a chorus where jonghyun doesn't sing...and u can only hear the BG instruments(and them going 'ooouuuuu')? they did that for the teaser and it sounds so much cooler...
This Shin Hyuk guy is fiiiiiiiiiine. Kinda makes me realize that idols really are just puppets though...most of them don't even make their own music, they just put a pretty face on it. Not that idols aren't talented, and some do write their own music, but yeah, I wish it was a little more authentic and that the idols singing actually wrote the songs. Oh well. I guess you're making a lot of money if you're a songwriter/producer in Korea...
I hesitate to call them puppets (even tho I'm sure some are). I get that for some people writing their own music makes a group somehow more legitimate, but for me it doesn't always. Maybe it's 'cause I come from an acting background where we generally don't write our own scripts and aren't expected to, but it doesn't mean the words and emotions aren't real for us or somehow less good/entertaining just because someone else wrote the work. That being said I do feel like idols don't often have control over how they sound or where/how they want their careers to go, which is sad.
lol This is so staged. Its kinda like a digest version of what takes place in a studio. My boyfriend is a sound engineer and the last time I went to the studio with him he was mixing the same song for like 10 hours. I was so tired of the damn song by the time the day was over. It's cool though to see a little incite to the creation process of Dream Girl.
I mean I can see where some people are coming from saying that idols may seem like puppets and what not, but I see them as kind of a part of the whole package. Like there are all these creative individuals that are working to make their sound, or their dance moves, or their style and it all comes together and they are the sort of medium in which it comes across. They are trained and creative individuals themselves too. I mean not everyone has performance skills or stage presence to be able to convey a concept or captivate an audience and fans. That just my two cents on that.
When I think of all the work behind the songs I almost think that selling them roughly 1€ per song to the audience is incredibly cheap. Then I remember that I am a student, my country's economy is a black hole and that internet exists and I revert to my old Ebenezer Scrooge self.
