After taking on the Korean and Japanese music scene, it’s been announced that KARA may possibly advance into the European market!

It’s said that music publisher Kobalt Music feels that KARA has what it takes to be a success in the European music scene judging from their success in Korea and Japan, and recently offered to help the group reach out to the markets of United Kingdom and Europe.

Kobalt Music’s proposal includes KARA releasing songs from Kobalt Music, and the company distributing the tracks in the United Kingdom and Europe. DSP Media confirmed that they have indeed received such an offer on the 4th, commenting,“We will fully review the offer.”

KARA recently became the first Korean girl group to hold a solo concert at the exclusive Tokyo Dome and has been one of the representative Korean artists in Japan, and now have fans anticipating to see a possible expansion out into the European market.

For more information about Kobalt Music, you can check out their website here.

reasons why this is stupid:

1) there's really no such thing as a unified european music scene
2) kara is fucking terrible

I checked out their roster and they have some solid acts in there, didn't know Saturdays were under them though. I guess they got dropped by polydor.

I wouldn't mind seeing them take a crack at the European market, makes more sense than the US.

Can Kara(-Nicole)English?

I always thought U-kiss should try Europe. Neverland or Tick tock feel kinda European to me, remix them up with a good DJ it might work.

Well, almost anything does go in Europe (as at least as a niche) - Like there is an audience basically for everything from Death Metal to bubble gum pop. Also people have more genre breaking taste in music (like my friend loves gothic heavy metal, but also some groovy jazz influenced pop) and very little is considered truly odd here. However, I don't know if Europe has a market specifically for a cute girl group (fans of female artists are predominantly other females here) as European girls have very different outlook to things than Korean/Japanese girls. Girls here idolize strong (often fairly openly sexual) women instead of meek women. Like I think there is definitely an opening for some Spice Girls type of pop act, but I don't see Kara type of group making it. With a right track and choreo they can maybe create some one-hit wonder type of dance hit craze (like Las Ketchup did) though, but not a lasting fanbase. But who knows maybe they go all indie electro pop here and somehow make all the hipsters love them.

I think if they act fast and milk the interest in kpop that PSY created they could do pretty well with Mister and the butt dance. But one group that I think could do even better in that department is T-Ara and Bo peep bo peep, especially if they stick to their cat costumes. The song is kind of universally catchy and the dance and outfits are so kinky yet cute, I think a lot of people would actually watch the MV if it was in English or something.

But what you said about female fans here preferring strong females to look up to is definitely right. Maybe SNSD should have released and promoted the English version of The Boys in Europe, too... If they actually want to promote in the US with an English album later this year they should really try and come to Europe with it as well. I wouldn't even be too surprised if they'd be more successful here than across the pond tbh.

T-ara would slay, esp with their original album, people love catchy electro pop that isn't about their ass or whatever Nicki Mianj sings.

The niche market in Europe that would be interested in Kara already know about them (but I'd be happy to be proved wrong).

I'd be curious to see how this turns out if they do try to make moves in Europe and how they'd go about doing so. There's such a wide variety of music and tastes across the continent. Good luck to them if they do try though, it would certainly be nice to have a bit more focus on this part of the world from kpop even if it might not go anywhere fast.
