On the January 31st broadcast of KBS 2TV‘s ‘Happy Together 3‘, INFINITE‘s Sunggyu revealed some of the hard times he had to face after coming to Seoul by himself.

During the episode, Sunggyu surprised the guests by sharing that he came to Seoul from his hometown Jeonju without any definite plans in order to become a singer. He revealed that his parents did not support his dreams initially and told him, “If you’re going to do that then get out.

Sunggyu shared that he was confident that he would succeed as a singer, and with this mind set, he packed his bags and with the money he earned from part time jobs, he left for Seoul.

To support himself once he was in the city, Sunggyu had to take on a lot of odd end jobs such as carrying charcoal at meat restaurants, serving at a cafe, and working at a bakery. He shared, “I was sad. When I was working at the restaurant and saw families come and eat delicious meals together while I was working in Seoul alone without my family, I wanted to cry at times.”

On the same episode, Sunggyu revealed his simple recipe of mixing kimchi with beaten egg and frying it, and shared that he used to make this fried kimchi dish whenever he missed home cooked meals.

I guess it all worked out nicely because Nell's manager told him about Woollim holding auditions when he served him at a cafe :')

Damn you really can't tell about the hardships most of the idols face, and the hopes they carry with them. Sunngyu;_;

Now it's making sense when he said on Weekly Idol and Seungyeol should listen to his mom more, he probably misses his alot.

I get really sad hearing stories of parents giving those kinds of ultimatums to their kids. I'm so thankful that my parents have always been so supportive of me.
I'm looking forward to seeing this show once it gets subbed, I've always loved Happy Together and I haven't watched it in a while and this will be a good one to pick it back up with :)

fucking "hardships" it's called working and LIFE why do people sympathize with this stuff, it's just what normal people go through. like every time jay park mentions that he worked in a tire factory in seattle after he got y'know kicked out people FLIP OUT LIKE 'HOLY SHIT MUST HAVE BEEN TERRIBLE' .......... like being an idol is better than working and living your own life anyway

i would say being kicked out and cut off from your parents is hardship esp in korea where family and filial piety is very important. and working is not the problem the problem is he had to work those jobs because he had no college degree and couldnt work in an actual career field which is how it goes in SK. you do school until you finally get into a good Uni and then you get a degree and you get a "proper" job. being cast out by your family for pursuing a dream. gyu is p young, he's like 25 so when he got kicked out he was probably really young. i mean idk how other people do it but i've never heard of asian or in my case arab parents tossing their children out when they turn 18. and usually stuff like that only happens when the parents are p much disowning their kid. like in SK the worst thing that can be done to you by your parents is being struck from the family registry. i dont think gyu's parents did that to him but they did the second worst thing by tossing him out and cutting contact. and idk about gyu but yunho was homeless for a while before he got accepted into SM is that also normal and "living life"? like you are grossly over simplifying things here. I had to work retail too but I still had my family's support to fall back on. which is what most other kids his age at the time in SK would have also had.
