My name is Kang Ji Hyun! I loved singing ever since young and was a charismatic young child who would follow singing and dancing along with the singers on tv. However, if I just dream then I wouldn’t be able to realize my dream. That’s how I became interested in the celebrities and naturally learned about the “beauty treatment” world.

That’s how I started to study about makeup, hair, and nail art. And with time, I fell in love with the art. During middle school I received my beauty license and participated in a beauty pageant. I received good fortune and became a member of SISTAR and realized my dream as a singer. But if I didn’t become a singer, wouldn’t I become a rising star in the beauty world? ^^

It’s true that beauty took up most of my time during my school years, but I couldn’t give up my dream as a singer. I diligently auditioned while I studied. And by chance, I was able to become a trainee at my current company.  Even though I was just a trainee, I was ecstatic. It felt like I was already a singer. ^0^ From Kang Ji Hyun to SISTAR’s Soyu, I’m diligently working to spread the awareness of SISTAR. Even 10 years later, I want to travel the world and perform and I want to stand on the stage for the fans. Also, I want to be a multi-entertainer who can be a solo artist, an actress and MC for various shows!!! (I’ll do my best~! Please watch over me~!)

For someone who loves food and makes traveling to find different tasty restaurants as a hobby, the concept of “diet” for girl groups was like a war. I have my diet know-hows now, but it was really hard during my trainee years when I didn’t know anything and starved myself. *Cries*

I have one episode regarding “diet” during my rookie year. It happened on the set for our debut track “Push Push” music video. At that time, all the members were on a diet. The filming went on til the early morning and there was a food delivery. The members were hungry and tired after filming for 12 hours and we were tempted by the “egg toast.” ㅠ_ㅠ We took one without anyone knowing and shared it in the bathroom. I will never forget the taste of that toast for the rest of my life. (The taste of the toast we had in the bathroom..)

# My Diet Revealed!
There was a time before when my “quick weight loss” was big news. A lot of people around me asked for pointers. To be honest, there’s nothing special. It’s just that I found a workout and diet plan that works for me. It’s really good not just health wise, but mentally to find a diet plan that works for you. But there are a few tips I can share that will work for everyone.

I’m the type who takes diets seriously. It’s important to not eat a lot of salt. (Five stars) Lowering the sodium intake will help a lot with the diet and lessens the body swelling. Eat less salt and eat more food closer to mother nature.^^

Another tip is to take a picture before you start your diet and to take pictures during the process. It helps you feel better when you see the small changes in your body. Also, write a diet journal. I would write what I ate, my workout that day and how I feel in the diet journal. It’s important to record how your body is doing as well. That way, you’re able to catch whether you’re experiencing dizziness and early symptoms of unhealthy habits. If so, you can stop the diet for a bit and rest. Leaving a detailed record of your diet will help you to start the process again when you recover!

Also! You can’t leave out exercising when talking about diet. I tend to work out the whole body and circuit training best works for me because it raises my heartbeat and also has a cardio effect. It’s important that you work out regularly. I would work on my buns and thighs before going up to perform on stage. I would place my hands flat on the wall and raise my leg backwards for the buns and would sit on an invisible chair against the wall to tighten my legs. After a light workout, my body line comes out well on stage.


Lastly, the hardest thing during a diet! It’s hunger pains. ㅠㅠ I drink a lot of water to ease my hunger and also prepare a special boxed meal to help pace my hunger. Fruits and vegetables with a lot of water (like cucumbers) and chicken breasts satiates hunger. Critical meal for the first week of dieting is protein and vitamins! The following week would be to slowly up the protein and carb intake. There’s also a sad outcome from dieting. It feels like I became an outsider. I meet up with people less and sometimes with the members as well to diligently eat healthy meals. It’s because if I’m with them, I can’t fight my temptations.. Aigoo ㅠㅠ Fans are sometimes worried when I’m a little distanced, but people don’t misunderstand. ^^

# The day Soyu becomes a barista
The me who used to love sweetened coffee, has fell in love with americano after starting my diet. When I feel tired, I would have a cup of black coffee and feel refreshed. When I drink a cup before exercising, I get a boost of energy.

Right now I feel happy just drinking coffee, but I hope to study and become a barista one day. Sometimes I would drink coffee I made myself at home, especially americano! I can also make drinks like caffe lattes and caramel macchiato. I feel great when the members tell me my coffees taste great.^^ Everyone, please wait until the day I become a barista!

# How to achieve beautiful skin
Whenever I feel tired or when my body’s not in a great condition, it shows on my skin. That’s why I invest a lot of time taking care of my skin. After finishing my schedule, I would wash my face twice as much and would follow up with my skincare routine.

Every morning I would drink one glass of water. That’s a special tip! Also, my face is the type that swells easily so I would wash my face with green tea. I would put 3-4 green tea bags in 1.5L of water and put it in the fridge. Then in the morning, I would wash my face with that and it has a 2 in 1 effect: reduce swelling and improving the skin.

At night, I would put on face oil on my face and follow up with a hot towel to steam the face. Afterwards, I would wash my face with cold water~! Lastly, I’ll put on essence and massage it in my face to help with the drier skin during the winter time.

Middle school is 14/15 years old? That's really young! My make-up skills are so basic. And I want to taste her coffee.

I'm so tempted to try the green tea thing but I'm lazy and will never carry through with it.

i use it occasionally when i feel like my face is darkened or when dealing with a small breakout
i think it does brighten up my face and my skin is less troubled/oily... (i have combination skin btw)
i wash my face first with cleanser, and then i finish it off with green tea

i boil some water and then leave in 1-2 tea bags(or however many depending on how much water you put) for, idk, an hour or something, and leave it to cool before i put it in the fridge! it's really refreshing (esp. in the summer time) :p
it's worth a try...since it's easy to do ^^

i buy green tea from this korean supermarket that's around my area (hmart, lotte), but i mean it's just green tea so i don't think the brand really matters :p just don't buy some 99 cents one LOL

I was scared to read the diet part, but everything she said was reasonable and is true! Step number one: LESS SALT. Diet journals really do help, write down everything you eat!

most of her dieting is pretty on point. she was 100% about her workout plan and drinking water. food journals help a ton---less salt and multivitamins including fish oil is CRUCIAL.

the only thing is i didn't like was the whole hunger pangs business. when dieting u really aren't supposed to feel them---u should be eating enough and often enough (5-6 times a day actually) in addition to drinking a shit ton of water and exercising regularly.

i feel like ppl always starve themselves which isn't the right thing to do AT ALL. if u're hungry, EAT---the trick is instead of a bag of chips eat an apple! snack often to keep ur metabolism going and be consistent. EAT CLEAN! dieting is about appreciating ur food AND ur body---not deprivation.

but i totally get her not going out as much T___T. it's so hard to control urself when u're around friends eating whatever and drinking whatever.

So much respect for her right now for promoting a really healthy (both physically and emotionally) way to diet.

There is usually so much in terms of horrible practices artists use to maintain a low weight (Secret comes to mind) and it's really sad that they don't know a healthier means towards their goal.

This was really great of her. And I love how detailed it is!
