Jaejoong’s birth mother shares her thoughts on meeting her son and netizen reactions

JYJ‘s Jaejoong‘s biological mother Oh Seo Jin will appear on the January 11th episode of new TV Chosun program ‘Persevering Life‘ and open up about her life.

She stated, “In the past, after I was divorced at a young age, while I went through many difficulties, an aquaintance persuaded me to send my son to a different home. However, I did not realize at the time that it would be an adoption.”

Jaejoong met his birth mother 20 years after they were separated, after he had become a huge star as a member of TVXQ. She revealed that the joy of being reunited with her son was short-lived, however, because she became known as “Jaejoong’s birth mother”, bringing on hurtful comments and reactions from netizens, especially those that claimed that she was using her son’s fame. She stated, “I even attempted suicide.”

Through the difficulties of her past, she stated that she learned many new things and is now living a new life as a “protector of families” in Korea. She continued, “I consider my difficult life a stepping stone and I want to help other families.”

‘Persevering Life’ will feature guests who have overcome difficult obstacles in life, as they share their stories and methods to recovery.

I'm pretty sure Jaejoong is on good terms with her. At least he was not that long ago.
I don't think you should judge on what the preview says alone. In the article she mentions working as the director of Republic of Korea’s Protect the Family organization. Maybe she wants to promote that, whis isn't a bad thing imo.

With all the paperwork that goes into adoptions, how could she not know that was what she was doing? Unless they are done differently in Korea.

I don't blame people for doubting her or questioning her motives because I just don't see how she could have thought this would be a good idea given that her son is promoting his album and is doing pretty damn good with his song's release.

I try not to pass judgment since I don't know her and what her life was like but she makes it so hard, especially since what she says she wants and what she actually does are total contradictions.

I don't understand how people are commenting on "how could she have done that" and what not. COME ON, stop lying to your self! How many times have you seen this story play in the kdrama's, hell just a few days ago someone posted an article about the difficulties single mothers in Korea face hence they generally or rather are encouraged to give their children up for adoption. So get off your high horse and stop judging. At least she's trying to do something to rectify the situation so that other mothers don't have to do what she may or may not have knowingly done by giving JJ up for adoption.

I'm not annoyed that she gave up Jaejoong for adoption. She did the right thing if she didn't have the means to take care of him.

The reason I'm annoyed is that it seems like she's using the situation to get attention. I want Jaejoong to be able to focus on promoting his music, not being asked about his personal life.

She's not the only woman in Korea or in the world who has been forced by circumstances to give up her own child. I just wish for a moment we could all let go of the limelight, and live the real life. Don't be a netizen, be a person. Take from this story what you can, and conduct your life in a manner that is appropriate, because this could be your friend, sister, or whomever facing a decision such as this.

For someone who didn't intend to giving out her child for adoption she surely took a loooong time.. And just come to her child live 20 years latter when he is having a breakthrough in his music career.

I don't like this article because it seems to me she is putting the blame on JJ parents and put herself as a victim. Like they somehow trick her and make her give Jaejoong for adoption.
JJ parents did the right thing. Without the legal letters, how will he ever get to school and get all the administrative done? And even then, if she intend to get involve in Jaejoong live, she can refuse to sign the adoption paper and help them with it. It's not like JJ families going around S.Korea to avoid her.

That's not how it went down though. I'm pretty sure she kept in touch with JJ's adoptive parents, them updating her. JJ learned about it some time before his debut and from then on was in contact with his biological mother. She never said anything about it and the only reason we know that he was adopted is because his biological father made it public. Jaejoong said he was on good terms with her - mentioned her in his thank you speech at an award show and all - but had never heard of him.
She hasn't talked about it much. Barely actually. I think if she's there to promote her organization, which is what it sounds like to me, then good! These issues need to be addressed. A case public as hers will bring more attention to that. Which again, is a good thing.

I feel bad for her though, there is quite a stigma on woman raising their child alone, so she probably came from a good place. I am happy she got to be reunited with her son. If she did it for the fame? Who knows.

It is a good thing she is promoting her organization. Issues like this happen on a regular basis in SK and I hope this gives it some necessary attention and it can at least be something to openly discuss about.

She seriously needs to stop. I can't believe the galls of her to do this AGAIN.
There is a reason why Jaejoong's adoptive family and all of Jaejoong's k-fans dislike this woman so much. Even Jaejoong's own sisters commented about how this woman uses Jaejoong just when she needs something.

Let me break it down so maybe people can understand why fans are so upset at her.

First time she appeared on television was when she auditioned for Superstar K. Instead of trying to get past auditions with, you know, talent, she went into this long segment about how she was the mother of ~Kim Jaejoong~ and the painful story of having to give him up.

Fans thought it was a one-off so they didn't really bother, though they thought it was a bit strange that she would bring up the subject for the first time when she was auditioning for a music show.

When the lawsuit happened, you didn't hear a peep from her. Jaejoong's adoptive family was communicating with his fans, assuring them, trying their best to do whatever they could to calm Jaejoong's fandom down.

When JYJ came out again under AVEX with The..., Jaejoong's bio mother started a blog showing her travels through Japan and going into Kpop shops, taking pictures with JYJ's things. Fans thought it was kind of cute, so they still didn't really care.

Drama with AVEX happened, Jaejoong's bio mother was quiet once again.

JYJ joined CJeS and released The Beginning, Jaejoong's mother suddenly had all these articles coming out about how she was now doing her masters degree. Like...who really cares? But during the first stages of internet promotions for The Beginning, you'd see the articles about her getting a degree whenever you searched Jaejoong or JYJ

No one heard from her again until the Their Rooms/In Heaven era: Right as In Heaven was being released, more articles came out about her winning something called the "Sharing representative award" and her desire to work with woman's welfare. Again, when you searched JYJ or Jaejoong her name came up everywhere.

Jaejoong won SBS newcomer award and as soon as that was announced--what do you know--Jaejoong's mother had more articles released about how she was interested in politics and was looking towards joining in political groups for woman's advocacy.

Jaejoong got cast in Dr. Jin and around that time Jaejoong's bio sister was suddenly slated to debut and all across Korean websites were article after article about how "JYJ Jaejoong's sister will debut as an actress"

Now finally, Jaejoong's first solo ever and she does this. If this was a one time thing, yeah it's understandable. But it's not. She's a leech and an opportunist and that's plain to see. Now, when you look up Jaejoong's name--instead of getting tons of articles about his new solo--you're getting this regurgitated nonsense.

If all she cared about was getting her message across she wouldn't use every single JYJ/Jaejoong release as an outlet for her own personal gain.

Bravo for this post - this pattern is undeniable. In addition to that, there was anger from Jaejoong's adoptive sisters who said that Jaejoong was upset about his mother pushing her daughter as "Jaejoong's half-sister." Later, the half-sister couldn't debut anyway, because she was too high profile and the KBS producer decided to not cast her.

Agree with a lot of the comments here about it not being right to use Jaejoong's name to grab fame, but.....

People asking how she could not know what she was doing when she gave him up, etc etc should check out some of the stories of the mothers on the KUMFA website or some other adoption websites....orphanages and adoption firms in Korea do get used commonly as a temporary thing and a lot of mothers are convinced to out their kids in there under the impression that they can get them back shortly, only later to be pressured/bullied into signing adoption papers.

So.....not as straightforward as it seems.

Anyway, this woman is awful as everyone knows and already many people explained, but people criticizing/judging her or calling her out because she gave up Jaejoong, or because she claims she didn't knew she was giving up Jaejoong for adoption, need to stop and realize Korea is years light behind in these issues, and they have a really shady adoption system, and it was even worse 20+ years ago tbh.



Going back to read the comments, I wonder how many of us were around in the DBSK fandom when Jae's family situation became public.

Jaejoong learned about his bio mom when he was 16 years old. But she wasn't a complete stranger to Jae's adoptive family, she kept in contact with them through Jaejoong's childhood.

I'm too lazy to make a long comment about it, but she has talk A LOT about her family situation and Jaejoong.

Also I want to point out when this was made public, it was Jaejoong's biological father who made it public, because Jaejoong's adoptive family was trying to include Jaejoong in the Kim family tree, but his bio dad wanted to keep him in the Han family tree even though Jaejoong refused. It was a huge mess and it really hurt Jaejoong because he isn't even close to his bio dad.

And etc., So yeah I mean you can't really blame fans for not having the greatest opinion about her, however like I said we have no right to judge her, etc.

While I do agree that raising awareness to this issues in Korea is necessary and something that needs to be done, I don't like this woman. She comes up every time Jaejoong's doing sth (someone already commented on that) and keeps throwing his name around. Honestly, I wouldn't like it if I were in Jaejoong's shoes.
