Director set to marry his boyfriend

Kim Cho Gwang-su, the director of “Two Weddings And A Funeral” and “Love, 100 Degrees,” is rumored to be planning an unofficial wedding ceremony next year.

A source from his production company told News N on Wednesday that Kim will marry his boyfriend, who is 19 years his junior, sometime next year. They have dated for eight years.

“The date hasn’t been set yet,” said the source, who singled out parents’ discord as the reason for the delayed event.

The couple revealed they were dating to their parents last year in March, and although it took some time for the family to accept the news, Kim has been playing a more active role in his boyfriend’s family events of late.

As one of the openly gay figures in the Korean entertainment industry, Kim has previously spoken out about his love life. At a press conference for his movie “Two Weddings And A Funeral” in June, the 48-year-old film director announced that “if things had gone according to plan, [he’d] be married already.” Same-sex marriage is not legally recognized in Korea.

Hong Seok-cheon "I pity my gay self"

Hong Seok-cheon made a confession.

Hong Seok-cheon posted on his Twitter on the 9th, "Living in the Republic of Korea as a tiny population of gays could never have been tougher. Today is a hard day. Living in ridiculous misunderstanding and surveillance, I look at myself and think, 'what a sad life'. I can't even have decent loving for the reason that I 'came out'".

"I pity myself for being misunderstood and having my friends and family misunderstood because of me. I need to prove innocence. I am going to fight no matter how strong the other is. Even if it means I have to break. I am going to prove that I don't believe gays in this country should shut up and be treated like scum".

He continued, "You have no idea how frustrating it is to be treated like a criminal when I've done nothing wrong. I am yelling on behalf of the people like me. Even if it means I'll get hurt. I can't get to sleep tonight because of the thorns in my heart".

He ended with, "I hope the next leader of this country is someone who cares for the rights of the minor population. Just like the president of the United States, Obama. I am doing all I can as a Korean but I don't have the rights to live as happily as I want to so here's my complaint".

Netizen's who've read his Twitter commented, "What happened?", "Cheer up", "It sounds bad but don't care about those around you" and more.

could they have possibly meant 8 months?!

Well his boyfriend would've been about 21 when they started dating. Personally I find huge age gaps weird (even considering that my mom is also 19 years younger than my father) but nothing wrong here!

so they started dating when the guy was 21 and have dated for 8 years. how is that weird?

top reason that Korea is a shit hole

anyone who even visits there on vacation is supporting homophobia

Do I support homophobia too just cause my state hasn't legalized gay marriage (yet)?

that's stupid logic, tbh

I feel so bad for gay people living in Korea. It must be like a constant uphill struggle for them. It's not exactly a walk in the park in my country either but at least we're on our way to making things more equal, and public opinion is a lot less bigoted.

South Korea makes my island's tolerance for gays seem not that bad yet I still hate it here. :( I feel really bad for the LGBT community in South Korea.

I admire him. And Kim Cho Gwang-su too. It takes a lot of courage to come out in that social environment.
Things like these make me feel proud of my country, where same sex marriage is legal since 2010 and the LGBT community is quite outspoken and respected. Of course there are still many cases of discrimination but we've come a long way when it comes to LGBT and women's Rights

It doesn't happen often that I can feel proud of my country, sadly, but I am so fucking proud too cause that happened here too in 2005 and we are also pretty outspoken and respected. Where are you from, btw?

Just as more Korean celebs are coming out with their relationships(esp. after the IUxEunhyuk scandal), I think more gay celebs should do the same. If there are more who confess their sexuality then won't it start to be accepted? Or will they all be stoned and side-eyed? >.

There was a gay celebrity who came out on a TV show and then committed suicide later so I don't think it's gonna work. He wasn't even that famous so imagine what it's like for someone who is.

I think it's a loooong way before that actually happens. They should find ways to normalize things first, tho. Maybe start from education and media? Those are big weapons to make people realize that gay peopole is, you know, just people. We can only hope that things will change in the next years :(

It's not that easy, though. Non-straight people can have a lot at stake and coming out can turn out very bad depending on your situation.

I'm sure every non-straight person would like to live out of the closet and comfortable not having to hide or lie, but coming out can be risky and it's understandable why people would rather remain in the closet.

I wish him nothing but the best, even though Australia still hasnt legalised same sex marriage, at least we are a hell of a lot more tolerant, we have an openly gay Minister, another Minister whose partner is transgendered and a few gay members of parliament.

And quite a few of our top entertainers/singers are open about their preferences, no one feels the need to hide it.

Sighh~ I just wish people were more accepting of gay or bi-sexual people
or people of any sexual orientation
It's sad that most of us have to feel as if we did something wrong because
the way we are is different from societal standards.
This article makes me happy but sad at the same time
