▶ Not Six but One VIXX
After debuting with ‘Super Hero’ they followed up with a second dance number ‘Rock Ur Body’ composed by Shinsadong Tiger. Through ‘ROVIX’, created by popartist Charles Jang, they communicate on SNS with fans in 3 languages and it also appears in VIXX’s music videos without fail. Two months after their debut, and four months later, they held performances in America and Japan respectively, and have the ambition to be referred to as a ‘rising group’.
Tell us the process of your debut.
In addition to the 7 company trainees, 3 more who passed the audition were added and the 10 of us were candidates for the group. The best were selected through a competitive survival reality show. In the middle of the competition, we had to evaluate each other or reveal what was in our hearts in interviews, so there were a lot of burdens and fears that we could upset someone. But thanks to that we were able to quickly get used to the cameras and broadcasting. Besides, in a time of such fierce competition, us VIXX members were able to get even closer to each other. As rookies, there was no greater opportunity.
On YouTube I saw your videos that you personally film in your own format. How did that start?
While we were waiting for our turn in the waiting room, Ravi jokingly pretended to be an MC and recorded it, but the reactions in the fancafe were good so we came together and created a new channel called ‘VIXX TV’. Every Tuesday at 9PM it’ll be uploaded without fail. Founder Ravi and leader N take the lead and reveal backstage stories or dorm life, we also reveal news. We also have a corner called ‘Leo’s Music City’. In the fancafe, fans can upload stories and request a song for him to sing.
In the group, which member is responsible for what character or role?
Leader N is the first to understand the members’ hearts and possesses a gentle leadership. If N is the mom, Leo is the dad. To get to the point, he makes a lot of harsh suggestions but as you get to know him, he is always thinking wholeheartedly about the members. Hongbin-ie has the cleanest personality and always straightens up the dorm, while our maknae Hyuk-ie is the first to volunteer to help his hyungs, Ken is the mood maker and Ravi is the dependable oldest son. Each of our different personalities complement each other and makes our team more solid. This way we can make music and show performances that only VIXX can do. N who actively participates in stage production and the team’s rapper, Ravi, who shoulders the responsibility of lyrics and composing, vocal parts Leo and Ken, outstanding stage presence Hongbin-ie, and Hyuk-ie who faithfully does his part in an orderly fashion. Teamwork is our best quality.
Are there any sunbaes or other singers that you want to work with?
Of course. Although we haven’t had a chance yet, rather than just watching, by working on music together there is much that we can learn. Out of our members, Hongbin has worshipped Park Hyoshin like an idol before debut and wants to do a duet. Ken wants to make an acapella group with Beast’s Yang Yoseob sunbae-nim, MBLAQ’s G.O sunbae-nim, and SHINee’s Jonghyun sunbae-nim. N’s dream is to hold a joint performance with Big Bang sunbae-nims. Even if we learn only one thing from them, it feels like we could become an invincible team. We want to become singers that excel in singing, dancing, and have strong grasps of the stage, without any unbalances.

I love VIXX, I feel like all of the members (yes, even Leo) mesh together soo well. I can imagine them becoming big variety stars in the future, just keep working hard.
