Open World Entertainment CEO Jang Suk Woo pleads guilty

Open World Entertainment CEO Jang Suk Woo, who was charged with counts of sexual assault against female trainees and sentenced to 6 years in prison earlier this year, has confessed to his crimes.

On November 13th, during the appeals hearing, Jang confessed to having sexually assaulted female trainees in his agency. His lawyer stated, “He pleads guilty to all charges. He will work to help the healing process of the victims.”

His side also tried to appeal to the court’s favor in order to get his sentence reduced by stating that Jang is a business man who had worked hard to spread Hallyu within China, calling one of his company executives as a witness to prove this point. This seemed to have been brought about after suspicions arose that Jang was part of gang-related activities.

This is a complete change in attitude of Jang and his legal team, as previously, they had denied the charges altogether and then later stated that although sexual relations did occur, they were not forced. However, with the latest appear hearing, Jang has now admitted to all the charges against him.

The next court session will take place on December 11th.

Things like this happen all the time everywhere. Trust me, I look at criminal records for a living (in the US) and you'd be shocked at how many people there are out there who get deferrals or something along those lines for things like sexual assault so that if they comply with probation it goes off their record after seven years (immediately if they're in states like CA and KY). If I could I would pass a law that in crimes like rape/murder/child abuse, you're either guilty or innocent, and if you're guilty then you shocked be locked away for a hella long time. Like in this guy's case--forever.

But of course our jails are too full of convicts from the "war on drugs" to actually lock away the people who do actual physical harm to other people.

Sorry. I've been having a lot of feelings about my completely lack of trust in the USAmerican criminal justice system, and seeing the same sort of thing happen here just made them explode.

I really hope the whole war on drugs falls apart soon. Not because drugs are bad but there's so much about it that needs to be reassessed and evaluated.

Turn it into a war on cyber crime which is becoming a serious issue imo. And it's only getting worse.

Absolutely. Drugs are terrible, but the "war" on them has actually perpetuated violence and other kinds of criminal behavior.

I worry about how governments would deal with cyber crime--that they'll end up punishing regular people and making our lives more difficult in their attempts to fight cyber crime. It's an area where they'll have to tread really carefully imo.

Only because Jimmy Saville's case is such a publicised one with the authorities looking for someone to scapegoat, the Police will do anything to deflect the accusations of their own incompetence.

I'm not surprised really, it's a shame but atleast they took action and the victims got see some form of Justice, it's a shame it took so long and the sentence is light. Ugh the thought of this vile pig getting out earlier is gonna piss me off.

Apparently the statute of limitations already passed for the male idols:
"Although the CEO was indicted with raping the female trainees, the accusation against the CEO of forcing male idols to participate in the sexual assault has been dropped, as the prosecutor’s office was not granted the authority to indict.

A representative from the prosecutor’s office explained that as the female trainees did not try to escape the situation nor were they prevented from moving by force or threats, the case involving the CEO and the male idols did not fall under rape. Instead, it would fall under the use of authority and power to enter into sexual relations. Since cases that fall under such a category must be reported within one year of the occurrence, the prosecutors were not given the authority to indict the CEO on the charge of forcing male idols to sexually assault the trainees as the time frame had already passed."

I was too disgusted to continue reading after that. Someone who does that should be in jail for life without parole.
