Dongwan’s ‘Be Strong, Mister Kim’ ranks #1 in viewer ratings on first episode

Shinhwa‘s Dongwan‘s ‘Be Strong, Mister Kim‘ brought in 23.6% in viewer ratings with its first episode.

The KBS 1TV drama ranked #1 in its time slot. It features Dongwan as the main character Kim Tae Pyung, an unmarried father who becomes a tenant at Baek Il Sup‘s house. While greeted warmly by Baek Il Sup’s character, Dongwan isn’t so welcomed by his son or his daughter in law, hinting at friction to come.

The drama is aiming to touch the hearts of people by telling the warm story of a 30-year-old single father meeting with various children and forming a family with them. It does not follow the usual story of an optimistic main character and an antagonist that is blinded by greed.

Dongwan’s acting also received much praise. The CP of the drama said, “I was with Dongwan in his 2005 drama, ‘Goodbye Sadness‘. He may seem fancy because he’s an idol singer, but he’s a healthy, honest young man. I decided to work together with him because I believed he would fit this character well. The character of Mister Kim fits well with Dongwan. Please look forward to him.”

I really like this show! I miss out on most of it because my Korean is terrible, but Dongwan and the kids are adorable. I hope the team at viki gets the copyright go-ahead soon!
