2NE1's 'Fire' is #2 on Myx Philippines' Hit Chart and International Top 20

myx or MYX (pronounced /miks/ as in "mix") is the music channel of ABS-CBN (the television network where Sandara Park first appeared as a contestant in the 2004 Star Circle Quest and won 1st runner up to Hero Angeles) and is currently one of the most popular music channels in the Philippines. It is also a part of Studio 23's program line-up.

MYX Philippines is known for featuring the music videos' lyrics on-screen, allowing the viewers to sing along. This was inherited from the defunct karaoke channel VID-OK.

2NE1's Fire lands the #2 spot on Myx Philippines' Hit Chart and International Top 20 for the week of July 5-11, 2009. Rankings are determined by the number of votes and requests sent via email but mostly through SMS.







Note: I was in denial about this for several days. Seeing is believing, I guess. But I am not surprised since Sandara Park has a large (loyal and extremely supportive) fan base in the Philippines. If she got over 2 million text votes from supporters in 2004, what's another couple of million for 2NE1 to reach number one on Myx?

Was it ever mentioned here that Sandara Park is called Krung Krung in the Philippines? I don't even know the literal translation for Krung Krung but the closest would be rattled AND crazy (in a good way), I guess. She's the National Crazy Ass Koreana (Pambansang Krung Krung) of the PH.

fayelafee made me listen to 2NE1's "Let's Go Party" yesterday and Sandara spoke Tagalog/Filipino (not Spanish). During the intro, she said "Punta tayo sa fiesta!" (Let's go to the fiesta!). The Pinoy fans will go nuts when they hear this.

[ETA] They're on #2 (not #1) because apparently, them Archuleta fans are insanely tight when it comes to voting. They do it by teams for music channel videos like Myx and MTV Philippines and all the FM radio stations (I am not sh*tt*ng you gaiz). Let's see what the Sandara Park/2NE1 fans can do about this.

You can't totally eliminate haters, they're everywhere. In her case though, she seemed to have won more Filipino hearts since she's sincere and... crazy and rattled all the time. She was able to make the haters like her even.

Seeing Super Junior in the chart is such a pain. I just don't want them to be famous here then easily get dumped and labeled as "baduy". I know how things here work. There's too much piracy and artists lose their value, I just don't want Kpop artists to lose their value.

this sucks for me. living in the Philippines, i know when an artist becomes a hit or not. and FIlipinos just dont really get to appreciate the real talents. just cuz someone is pretty even if he/she has the worst voice, they still blindly support them. And i dont think its just in our culture to support boybands. and i think.. whoever is voting for suju are only the elfs in the Phils. not really the general public.

Well everyone here pretty much said what needs to be said. Truth of the matter is, the arrival of Kpop in the Philippines can either be in 2 ways: a good one or a bad one.

Seeing how stuff related to the entertainment industry is mostly controlled by the big shot stations, the possibility of our beloved kpop groups becoming mainstream is not that far off. What irks me the most is the scenario when people on tv would talk about such groups with complete ignorance and no research. It really happens. There are some people who don't really do the extra effort to find out about an artist just because they're Asian. Honestly speaking, the music scene here is heavily influenced by Western artists.

Kpop is great which is why plenty of people support and listen to it. I don't think I'm ready to ride a jeepney or a tricycle that would play 2NE1's fire on full volume and bass. What a nightmare!

I like my kpop not being mainstream tyvm,,
I'm not being selfish, it's just that I like the feeling that I get when I meet a fellow fan who's done his/her homework.

Not surprising... It's because of her and BOF that Korean songs and groups are getting popular in the Phils. It's just really irritating when I hear people sing them with the wrong lyrics. Makes me feel like punching someone.

Also, WG is pretty popular too with Nobody. Not surprising either since it's a very catchy song. But Sorry, Sorry of SJ... Whenever they try singing that... (-_-) I really wanna punch someone. It's irritating. SUPER! DX
