I will be so disappointed if B.A.P didn't win the rookie awards. They've been promoting nonstop compared to other rookie group and it really shows that they really want the rookie awards based on their interview.
lol neither bap nor exo even deserves to win the award; the other 3 comes up with way better music. No. of promotions justifies nothing when they only put out 3-5 new songs each time (for idols it's really just an excuse to get more exposure)...Real artists put out a whole album full of quality songs at one go. bap can whine all they like about wanting the award, but if they end up losing the catfight with exo it's no big deal. It'll still be a meaningless affair anyways when it's a competition between 2 of the least deserving groups to see who can cultivate the most rabid fanbase
Let's be real here, real artist never had the chances of winning these kind of awards especially the one with voting. I'm a big fan of Busker Busker and john park since superstar K but even i know it's useless for wanting them to win, what's the point of having your hope high when you know in the end the winner will be idols.
and one more thing is that i don't even bother to check the other contestant bcos i assumed the other contestant are idol groups too hence my comment being like that.
I guess my wording is wrong that makes people misunderstand me, i'm the type who don't usually bother to check who is the nominee. I assumed that all the nominee are idol groups since people keep saying B.A.P , EXO etc until archenemy02 replied to me.
Furthermore i didn't write ulala session in the comment because i was too lazy to write it they're not my fav from superstar K not because i don't know they're the other contestant since i thought putting the other 2 artist would have made my point already. In my opinion B.A.P deserve the rookie awards compared to other rookie group (idols) and i never thought busker busker, john park and ulala session as a rookie anyways.
I've been following kpop for many years that i find it useless actually wanting a real artist winning an award because in the end idols will always dominate. Might as well cheering for my fav idols.
What I wish both fandoms would realize is that this is one awards show, and there are several more opportunities (esp for BAP) to win rookie awards, but logic, go figure.
Doesn't matter who wins, there will be flipped tables everywhere. If EXO wins, they'll get hate for apparently not deserving the award (imo, that's total bs) and if B.A.P. doesn't win, it'll be a huge bummer since they have been promoting practically nonstop. :/
Such a useless fanwar to begin with. The MAMA awards are not even prestigious to begin with and the ceremony has been such a hot mess since 2009. But I guess pride gets in the way of things.
Ugh don't remind me. It's been talked about quite a few times but lots of people are turning into such cry babies so now, I'm hoping for Busker Busker to win since it'll shut them up (voting online counts only 20% anyways). The fanwar schtick is making me too old for that shit. The whole promotions/worked harder shouldn't be the only hand out reason. They have to at least account in sales and quality too.
It's not the only rookie award out there. GDA chickened out and gave to anyone that attended.
Busker Busker already announced they're not going. They're the only one among John Park and Ulala Session that I thought can win over either BAP or EXO.
Can't wait for the mess of whoever wins the award. Good Lord, I've been in K-pop for years and I've never seen people care about a rookie award so much.
Whoa, that's interesting on the "lulz, fanwars!" front. XD When do the other award shows start revving up anyway; I always thought no1curr about MAMA....
I guess MAMA's getting so much attention just because it's the 1st award show of the year, plus lots of K-pop noobs that are fans of the rookie groups. MAMA has been a joke since it stopped being MKMF anyway.
Golden Disk Awards is usually around early December, and Seoul Music Awards is usually late January or early February, I think.
Huhhhhh... so I guess that means, if Exo's comeback is really in November, it will probably be that song (rather than MAMA) up against either Crash or Hajima? Interesting....
(What was MKMF, and what aside from the "you can't win if you don't show up" part is especially bullshit about MAMA?)
MAMA or Mnet Asian Music Awards used to be MKMF or Mnet KM Music Festival until 2008. The no-attendance-no-award rule is part of every award show in Korea anyway, so it's not specific to MAMA.
What's annoying about MAMA is that Mnet has shady criteria for judging most of the time, as well as the fact that they insist on holding it abroad, thus making it hard for most of its nominees to attend. Like in 2009 and 2010, MAMA was practically a YG and JYP show because SM and a lot of other smaller companies either boycotted attending due to unfair judging (2009) or couldn't afford to send their artists abroad and have them miss Music Core and Inkigayo (2010). And a lot of other little things.
MAMA is basically like the Teen Choice Awards. Golden Disk Awards and Seoul Music Awards are the ~prestigious and credible~ award shows.
And EXO will probably still be judged for MAMA (the mini-album/song) as it's the one with the achievements (top 10 bestseller, etc.), kinda like how SHINee promoted three songs in their debut year but won awards for their debut song in the end-of-year award shows.
I thought Exo's MAMA didn't sell well digitally (although iirc it sold almost as well as Warrior in the same time period, so maybe not)? So if they had another release that was more accepted by the public, they'd be better off getting judged on that one. Although I don't really know if my impressions are (still?) accurate, or how much the award shows weigh the different types of sales....
Oh yeah, I was wondering why the MAMA awards were taking place in HK.... o.o
What was particularly unfair about the 2009 judging that caused SM to boycott? (Since it wasn't maintained....)
MAMA's one of the top 10 in physical sales, so that's nothing to scoff at. The 2009 boycott was about the unfair ranking criteria in M!Countdown because "Gee" was the song of the moment, topping charts and winning music shows yet they never did in M!Countdown. SM got pissed because it was ridiculous, but there's always been artists that were protesting against Mnet's rankings/awards over the years, way before SM.
So SM publicly announced they'd be boycotting the newly-renamed MAMA, regardless of the fact that Super Junior and SNSD, as well as SHINee, had some of the biggest songs of the year and were shoo-ins for awards. Then Mnet pissed SM off even more when they let JYJ, who had just filed their lawsuit against SM a few months before, actually appear and be given some sort of award.
Then Mnet proposed to many companies to let them manufacture and distribute their physical albums, and SM was one of the few who refused because they can manufacture and distribute them all on their own.
So, no SM artists ever appeared on anything related to Mnet for the whole of 2009 and 2010. Mnet and SM didn't reconcile until early 2011 when DBSK was making their epic comeback as a duo and Mnet couldn't miss out on the comeback of the year.
I hope it's a lot better than last year's show, non-Korean acts were basically only good ones in MAMA 2011. I hope Big Bang attends and SM sends BoA and HoMin as all other SM acts tend suck in award show performances.
Just goes to show how awful korean idols are at lives compared to artists in other countries (or in their own country for that matter). The korean acts were underwhelming even when they were the ones that got all the special effects :/ And i doubt big bang, boa and homin combined can beat jane zhang's vocals and koda kumi's stage presence
Since they have their comeback in November and MAMA is on November 30, I hope they perform a different song as well. Lately it has just been really hard for me to keep staying interested in 2NE1, I love the old songs - but I need something new fast, because I seriously tend to forget about them lately. Them being nominated for Artist of the Year and Best Global Group is just making me laugh, since they haven't really released or done anything that would make them actually win. Plus I hate hate hate it that they never appear in any variety shows or the likes of that. I'm such a complaining fan ~
YG is just annoying me endlessly. At this point every word that comes out of his mouth is just
yes to all of this. YG is digging itself into a hole right now with all this crap. The industry is so cut-throat right now, and almost all idols do a little extra on the side, aside from promoting on all 3 broadcast channels. 2NE1 will be left behind at this point by the likes of SISTAR and other groups :\
Exactly! Also the reasons why they barely do anything beside performing are so lame that it annoys me even more. I get that they are shy ~ but you are an idol for *beep* sake and that is part of being in the business. I also understand that they want to be known for their music and not for their humor/other abilities, but come on - people will not suddenly stop taking you serious if you appear on some shows that involve something else than performing.
Basically, I always feel like 2NE1 (and recently a lot of YG Artists) are camping on their own little island in the middle of the ocean. Everything they do is with other people in YG and they never really branch out and explore new things, they just keep going on old successes. I mean, I love IATB - awesome song - but I am just sick of hearing it in every fricking performance they do. Their song repertoire is so ... Limited.
Oh my god I think I love you...YES to ALL OF THISSSS
It pisses me off that YG thinks that just because they do a lot less than what other idols do e.g. variety etc. it sets them apart. Yes, at first it was like, 'oooh that's so cool, they want to be known for their musical integrity.' But there songs aren't exactly improving (IATB is one of my party jams too) they've been going downhill since the first mini imo. They're beginning to sound more and more generic. I get YG is trying to sell them as a ~brand, but it won't last much longer if Teddy is at the helm - there are other better producers out there.
Also, there is so much potential in 2NE1 if they branch out. Dara and Bom are funny as fuck and Dara can act. I don't understand why YG wouldn't take this opportunity to build both of their confidence levels :\
gah excited for MAMA - prestigious awards or not, the performances are always A+ and make up for everything. Honestly, hoping 2NE1 pulls a GTOP and releases one of their new songs at the show, but from the way YG is running things atm, I highly doubt it :/
Hoping that lots of groups perform, and it is as good, if not better than last year's :)
