Epik High has returned with the release of the single “It’s Cold“, which immediately obtained an all-kill on the charts. Then, they released their new album 99 which has album been loved were interviewed at the YG Building recently. Here are some segments from that interview.
Tablo: We thought about who should sing “Up.” Even the guide had a hard time singing it. We asked Bom because she is good at power vocals.
Tablo: The members even said that they could hear Park Bom while listening to the song before we chose her.
Tablo: Bom‘s condition wasn’t great when she sang it so we’re very thankful.
Tablo: Many people said we are like idols after seeing our album jacket. It was nice to wear pretty clothes. (laughs)
Mithra: Personally, during this promotion I want people to say ‘Seeing Epik High makes me happy‘ and ‘They have fun on stage.’
Tablo: I’m pretending this album is our debut album. We’ll work hard as if we are newbies. I really missed the stage.
Tablo: We missed meeting audiences as three. We want to be on stage. It doesn’t matter if its a broadcast, a performance, or a club event.
Meanwhile, Epik High is currently promoting new studio album ’99′ their first release in three years with a double title track ‘ UP ‘ and ‘ Do not Hate Me ’.

I think it's really tiresome how people claim this doesn't sound like EH or how they sold out to YGE. It's like they are not allowed to make positive music or smth.... I mean GOD FORBID they move on with their lives, grow up from all the negativity and their emo kid stage and are actually happy and having fun and still be considered good artists/rapers/musicians. GOD.FORBID.

Date: 2012-10-26 01:48 pm (UTC)I mentioned before if they never joined YG there is no way they would release an album filled with this much experimentation. they risked losing all/most of their old fans, which at Map the Soul would've ment death, but with YG fans and marketing/BOM on their side they got to experiment with music a bit.
Will they go back to their old sound maybe... but for the most part they don't have to if they don't want to. YG isn't pushing them because they have the powerhouse aka bigbang. I like the songs because unlike Infinite's retro sound this 90's throwback-ish feel is much more my style.

Date: 2012-10-26 03:54 pm (UTC)If even the person who recorded the guide had difficulties singing the chorus, like they say in this interview, then why didn't they change it a bit? After putting the album on heavy rotation I've come to the conclusion that it isn't Bom's fault her lines make my ears bleed. I'm not really sure if there's even one person in the world who could sing it in that register/pitch without sounding awful to my ears (though I realize that's a very subjective thing).
