▲ What does EvoL mean?
If you turn “Love” backwards, it spells EvoL. There is a broad meaning, the meaning of us receving love from the audience, the meaning of “EVOLUTION” and then there is Effective Voice of Ladies as well.
▲ Each members’ introduction is different
EvoL comprises of Emotional Vocals, Yull (21), in charge of English and tanned skin, Hayana (20), in charge of vocals and dance, leader Say (20), in charge of rap, Jucy (21), in charge of rap, maknae J-DA (19). Most of them got in through auditions, Jucy did raps underground. She got accepted through Block B’s Park Kyung’s introduction.
▲The debut song “We Are A Bit Different” and the music video is really intense. What is EvoL’s overall concept?
Yull: One word “Fire~” (Everyone laughs). It seems like we’re an image of strong female warriors. Even though our producer Cho PD said “Hiphop Female Idols”, we were made to develop as artists.
▲ Are there any thoughts that are like the title of your song “We Are A Bit Different”?
Jucy: We are like men (laughs). We are aggresive and tough, we don’t play like girls.
Hayana: We have androgynois charms. I think we can be expressed as a group that are straightforward rather than prude. Also, another point that makes us different from other girl groups is that within our group, we write songs. Jucy does the rap-making for almost all the songs. She wrote for 5 out of 4 songs. Other than that, we all took part in the choreography and concept. I think that’s what different (about us).
▲ Your style has a lot of individuality. Don’t you want to be like other girl groups who have feminine charms and appeals?
EvoL: Absolutely not. Instead of wanting to look pretty, we want to advance with a “if we do this, will it be cause a trend? Will it (reaction) be neutral?” kind of mind.
▲ Lately girl groups have revealing costumes and wear high heels etc so we’ve heard plenty of episodes of broadcast accidents. Do you not have any special episodes?
J-Da: The regulations have been lowered. We wear clothes that reveal our stomachs on stage a lot. At the moment when we were wearing dark colored clothings, it looked like we were wearing dark colored undergarments so everyone laughed.
▲ I heard that the members took part in the writing and composing of songs, choreography as well as the concept. You are all talented people.
Say: Producer Cho PD took overall lead but the members saw to the directing together. At the end of song-writing, Cho PD did the final inspection.
Jucy: Producer Cho PD has emphasis. “If you want to succeed in music, you have to write songs yourselves.” he said. Originally from the start, even though the members came to do music, we have also learned new things and did them the right way.
▲ Cho PD did the producing and is also the boss. What is Cho PD to EvoL?
Yull: A boss. Like an uncle from the same neighbourhood.
Hayana: Trustworthy and reliable. Someone who has told us a lot of stories on life. 
▲ Is there a singer that you want to be like?
Yull: I admire Mariah Carey. I don’t have emotional vocals. I think we learn a lot from looking at singers who are rich in vocals.
Hayana: I have received a lot of influence from Rihanna. In Korea, I received a lot of influence from BoA sunbae-nim. I want to be like them in terms of performances and as a musician.
Say: I admire Michael Jackson and Beyonce. When Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love” came out at the beginning, I was overly excited and mastered the choreography. During a school trip, I did a talent show and I found it really fun so that was how I started dancing. I want to work towards having a mind of Beyonce’s energy and her music.
Jucy: I like Kanye West. It’s cool to be able to understand the unique music among pop culture. I also like Dok2 and Geeks.
J-Da: I admire Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj. I like the hiphop side.
▲ Is there a girl group that you are close with?
Say: There seem to be really a lot of girl groups. Because of the large number of girl groups, although there is a “there is competition” thought, in the waiting rooms, despite our diverse greetings, the atmosphere is better than I thought. Before (our) debut, there was tension and responsibility was huge but everyone was around the same age so I want to greet everyone better and get closer with everyone.
Hayana: I want to get closer with other girl groups too. Although there still aren’t any girl groups that we are close with, I am close with EXID’s Junghwa. It was nice to meet her again after years on broadcast since we used to practice together.
▲ It’s the flood of girl groups. Do you want to get the Rookie of the Year award?
Say: Of course we want to. However, we want to watch it from afar. Of course it would be great if we could receive (the award). Even if we don’t get it, we will work harder in the future. I think we achieve it someday.
Yull: I still wish we could receive it anyway (Smile)
▲ Are there any artists you would like to get closer with?
Say: BoA sunbae-nim. It’s a pity that our activities didn’t overlap during our promotions.
Yull: To learn from sharing is good. It’s a good reason. There are even photos by the bedside.
Jucy: I want to meet Tiger JK. I want to feel and see his force and passion.
J-Da & Hayana: In terms of music, we like Big Bang sunbae-nims. We hope to meet them once.
▲ Are there any other aspects other than being singers that you would like to challenge yourselves?
Yull: I am interested in acting. Just thinking about it makes me happy. I want to try out a role of a wicked woman.
Jucy: I want to try being a radio DJ. If I get to be a DJ, I want to invite all the male singers on as guests.
Hayana: I want to challenge myself and be an MC. An MC on music programs and be active on broadcast activities.
Say: I want to write a lot of good songs. As a musician, I want to try writing songs and more.
J-Da: Like Yull unnie, I want to challenge myself in acting. A piece with a twisted character based in school would be good. Right now I’m in my third year, I have nothing in particular that I remember since the start of the second year.
▲ Plans for future activities?
EvoL: We are currently in the midst of preparing for our repackage album. Since the writing and composing of the songs are done, there will be plenty of activities. Starting next year, there are gonna be overseas activities. A team that never stops, we want to be a team that will always set expectations higher than what the public thinks. We want to have fan meetings and fan signs etc and meet our fans more often.

So excited for their repackage though I think there're only 2 new songs :( I just hope they get to promote regularly on music shows this time round.

Various footage from their debut preparations and working with Block B’s Kyung, who has produced their debut album, will air! The members of our next group, ‘Topp Dogg‘, will also make a guest appearance ^^.”
