The Grasshopper talks Celebrity life

On the most recent episode of “Infinite Challenge,” Yoo Jae Suk revealed his hidden side through their 300th episode “Rest Special.” Yoo Jae Suk has been praised as the “National MC” and is known for his work ethic and personality. However, the side of Yoo Jae Suk shown in the latest episode of “Infinite Challenge” revealed that his title and popularity needed compromises and sacrifices.
At home, Yoo Jae Suk is always sorry for his young son for not being able to go to crowded places like amusement parks because of his celebrity status. At work, he quit smoking for his professional life and is always considering the possibility of retiring and opening up new paths for his colleagues.
Yoo Jae Suk used to be a smoker and his fans and TV viewers were okay with it. Most people thought, “He’s gotta smoke or something,” considering smoking as the only way Yoo Jae Suk could de-stress and enjoy without having to please other people’s wants and needs. However, he gave it up for his career. Yoo Jae Suk confessed, “If I don’t give up something I like, it’s hard to get everything. Every year, it’s becoming physically more challenging. I must be prepared for this. So even if I liked smoking, I had to quit. It’s that simple.” As a result, Yoo Jae Suk is entertaining millions of viewers every weekend on “Infinite Challenge” and “Running Man,” running with and chasing after his co-stars and guest stars who are much younger than he is.
Moreover, he is considerate of his colleagues and always concerned about their future as much as he is with his own. WhenHaha commented, “Hyung, You’re like Superman,” Yoo Jae Suk responded, “Even though you might think of me as reliable and dependable right now, me being here might be a hinderance in your career and your future.” Who else at the top of his career could say this about his status and his colleague’s future? Such comment was especially touching since Yoo Jae Suk gave up almost everything about his personal life for his career.
He confessed that he had told his son that “Daddy cannot go where there are a lot of people.” Although his son wanted to go to an amusement park as a family, Yoo Jae Suk sternly told his son that it’s something that just cannot happen because of his career and the family’s safety. This might cause some distress to one and his family, but Yoo Jae Suk accepted such circumstances naturally and organically.
After this episode of “Infinite Challenge” aired, fans and netizens responded to Yoo Jae Suk’s personal compromises and sacrifices with awe and respect. They commented, “Let’s start a new movement. When you spot Yoo Jae Suk and his family at an amusement park, just pretend like you didn’t see any of that,” “This explains how and why he has been at the top for so long,” “He is beyond anyone’s imagination,” and “The way thinks of and for others is special. He deserves all the respect and admiration.”

The fact that he's so popular and remains blemish free in such a harsh environment is a testament to his character tbh.

Date: 2012-10-23 03:18 am (UTC)wish others in the industry take this stance when it comes to smoking, especially idols.
Dear YooJaeSuk, if you are that popular in your country. next vacation, make your son's dream come true...go to Disney World or DisneyLand or somewhere outside of Korea as a family. pricey, but memories are worth it (and i'm guessing you can afford it).

Date: 2012-10-23 03:19 am (UTC)i also love him even more knowing that he changed and matured from when he was younger. i remember watching something, i think in some older 무도 episode, where he talks about his days as a newcomer comedian, and how he thought he was the best thing since sliced bread. the change from being arrogant to being amazingly humble is really just inspiring to me.
YOO JAESUK I LOVE YOU. I HOPE YOU DO THIS JOB FOREVER. also bring your family to america for vacation! so i can meet you, hehe

Date: 2012-10-23 06:04 am (UTC)but honestly i'm so sympathetic towards comedians. what probably started off as completely natural in front of the camera turns into a job and an assumed persona; yoo jae suk seems so serious and sober irl, and it makes me sad that he can't be as happy in his day-to-day life too, although i wonder if i'm maybe reading too much into it? it's just the comedian/real-life persona dichotomy you see pervade western media too. lots of comedians actually suffer from depression, and it's a horrible contradiction to me. :( i wish MC yoo happiness in not just his career, but his family life too! fighting, bro! and many more episodes of running man to come!

Date: 2012-10-23 09:30 am (UTC)THIS. PLEASE. TO ALL CELEBRITIES IF YOU ALL, NETIZENS, CAN.
Respect them as entertainers and solely human beings who have personal life and space. It's saddening that whilst his son is still so young, he can't watch him grow and have fun. Yet, we depend on him (and his shows) so much, it's ironic.

Date: 2012-10-23 07:42 pm (UTC)He's been a familiar face on the variety circuit for so long and the fact that he's got a young family now has his priorities shifted. Amazing man through and through.
Anecdote
Date: 2012-10-23 08:17 pm (UTC)So YJS and family going to amusement park and people leaving them alone? NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
I really wish he'd let himself be selfish for once and take his family abroad or something, but that's not going to happen either until he retires or all the TV stations go on strike or something. Korean variety shows just can't exist without him.

Date: 2012-10-23 10:28 pm (UTC)Yoo Jae Suk is one amazing man. Wish there were more like him but that's probably like wishing I could pluck a star out of the sky and capture it in a glass jar to keep beside me every night.
