Epik High argued with Yang Hyun Suk for their title song?

YG Entertainment‘s Yang Hyun Suk explained why Epik High has two title songs.

The hip hop trio recently made their long awaited return with the release of their 7th album ‘99‘, and released the two music videos to “Don’t Hate Me” and “UP“.

Yang Hyun Suk revealed, “The reason why Epik High’s 7th album has two title songs is because Epik High wanted to make “Don’t Hate Me” their title song and I wanted to make “UP” featuring 2NE1‘s Park Bom as their title song. It’s true we had a sort of a conflict while we were working on the album. But YG puts the artists’ opinions above anything else, so I decided to go with double title songs that would be a win-win for the both of us.”

Because they have two title songs, Epik High will have to do double the promotions and activities that they would have compared to having just one title song. Yang Hyun Suk said, “There’s some stresses involved logistically and it’s difficult to have double the amount of promotions, but it’s to support good music and work with a good artist, so I’m looking forward to it. I’m also looking forward to which song is going to rank higher on the charts.”

The reason Epik High chose “Don’t Hate Me” as their title song was to tell the story of their own hardships and also to thank their fans for staying with them through the hard times. The reason Yang Hyun Suk picked “UP” was because he wanted Epik High to rise from their hardships and rise up. Also, “UP” has a strong hip hop sound, so he predicted a lively performance.

Oh, then why did he pick UP which is basically one of the weakest tracks on the whole album? And it hurts to say that as a 2NE1 fan but it's Bom's part that completely ruined the song for me.

Why did he even admit there was an argument between him and the group in an interview? He has to know that a lot of Epik High fans have been worried about their move to YG and the amount of involvement from YG's side this would bring. His statement seems to confirm that YHS has his own idea of what's best for the group and that he wanted to push a track featuring another YG artist. This has to leave a bitter taste in the mouths of everyone concerned about YG's involvement in all things Epik :(

Well, YG seems to know Korean public to some extent as UP is currently #4 @ Instiz (real time) while Don't Hate Me is #10. It's Cold is beating them both though being #2.

YG probably pushed for UP 'cause he knows that Korean public will check out anything that has Park Bom's vocals regardless how bad or good they are. And UP is indeed doing better on charts than Don't Hate Me. Basically YG just wants to guarantee money flow into his company.

I just don't see how this proves that they are being taken advantage of musically wise. If someone argued regarding image that they were influenced, I would wholeheartedly agree with you.
It just seems like they had a disagreement on which one between the two was the better song. Tablo's been tweeting during the production of his CD, and his intended focus was definitely relayed. If I was to make an assumption it would be that he is just a lot happier than what he used to be, but I guess that's being too optimistic for Omona.

I had hoped YG would just stay out of their way, but it doesn't seem the case.

There are positives to joining YG, obviously they have a lot more help with performances and promotions, but on the downside is this.

Like others said, they've been around for years, they're adults, they know what they're doing and they DO NOT need you to butt in YG.

YG made the bloody wrong choice. UP would have been perfect without Bom, it was probably his idea to chuck her in the lot in the first place. I hate how he has to be all pushy. It's Epik High's goddamn comeback, not yours you bastard. Don't stuff it up for them when you know Bom can't sing for crap live, especially in that high as fuck register.

Also, it's not like Bom needs to be promoted anyway. For some reason or another, Korea likes how she sings, so YG is probably thinking it will help Epik High out. I'm waiting to see what ends up happening.

he knew Korea would automatically check out any track with Bom featured in it even though she sounds absolutely dreadful. and her fans would probably buy the track to support her. again, even though she sounds absolutely dreadful.

i feel like EH shouldn't have joined YG. they were always more underground/indie style artists. they release more upbeat mainstream tracks here and there but that's not what their music is really about.
i have to assume that the independent label thing didn't work out too well though. it's got to be very time consuming and heavy on the capital investment required. they just can't take as much of a risk anymore, especially since they all have families to support.

I get that they are pushing that age when the Korean public get disinterested in them, so they are milking what they can from YG rn.

It really seems that singers don't make that much anyway in the sense of like...a lot of them end up doing things like restaurants, and other side businesses because I doubt it's a steady flow of income or huge sums compared to acting. I remember some articles stating that the only reason why idols tried to pass as actors was because of the $$$ since a lot of them have to split their paychecks with the other members.

I just hope that YG understands that a lot of his top idols are losing their voices, and maybe he should invest in some proper lessons.
