On October 16th, 2PM‘s Junsu announced via his Twitter that he will be changing his name.
He tweeted the following tweets,
"BECAUSE OF A FAMILY MATTER, IT WAS DECIDED TO CHANGE MY NAME."
"OFFICIAL STAGE NAME WILL BE "JUN. K" AS IT WAS BEFORE BUT THE REAL NAME HAS CHANGED TO "MIN-JUN". JUNSU WILL NO LONGER BE USED IN THE FUTURE"
He also wrote the same message in Japanese and in Korean. He didn’t explain the sudden change of name except that it was because of ‘a family matter’. The singer explained that he would be keeping his solo name of JUN.K, but did not elaborate if his name in 2PM would change from ‘Junsu’ to ‘Minjun’.
Why do you think he went through the sudden change in name?

Korean tweet here, Japanese tweet here
Considering the fact that there was a Japanese tweet (which...judging from how it looks, I'd say someone translated it for him) as well, I think this is pretty much an official announcement?

Date: 2012-10-17 03:42 am (UTC)but so far Jun.K >>>>>>>>>>> Junsu/Minjun name wise
and another positive is that I will no longer go to a Junsu article thinking its about the 2pm one instead of the JYJ one. and in time googling pics will be easier as well :D
I heard that changing your name brings good luck or that ppl do it to chase away spirits or something like that...is that the reason why he did it?

Date: 2012-10-17 01:28 pm (UTC)EDIT. Lol wait, I misread something, the new name is Minjun, haha. But you know, I still think old nicknames can stick with him. It's not that he's denying his old name now.

Date: 2012-10-17 05:15 am (UTC)But I think changing names in Korea isn't that uncommon. I have this friend who changed her name when she was 10 years old because her parents didn't like the Chinese/Hanja characters for the original name (she said they overlooked it when they gave it to her). Wasn't a big deal, really, she's fine with either name. Apparently, it's really easy to change it too, just a trip to the family registrar place, a few bucks and voila, new name.

Date: 2012-10-17 05:25 am (UTC)Of course, a lot it is based on quack science like horoscopes and mal-applied numerology, but mostly it's based on.. A WHOLE LOT OF COMMON SENSE.
If people are going to laugh at your arbitrarily decided name, then fix it! That's obivous!

Is he trying to assert a close "brotherly" kinship with a cousin?
Changing one's name is kind of unusual unless the name is bad..

Date: 2012-10-18 01:57 am (UTC)my friend was named Ralph Ricardo, everyone called him Ricky. So he changed his name to Ricky Ricardo. Then in college he changed his last name because he was not close to his father.
