TVXQ revealed that there was an attempt to add a new member after the team broke up back in 2010.

On October 6th, Yunho and Changmin guest starred on KBS 2TV‘s ‘Story Show Do Dream‘ where they talked about the struggles they experienced working as a duo.

In 2010, TVXQ went from a five member group to a duo after Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu‘s withdrawal. In regards to this, the MC asked, “Wasn’t there an attempt to add a new member during that time?” and the two answered, “It would be a lie if we say there wasn’t.”

Yunho revealed, “There was an SMTOWN stage that the two of us performed on. That was actually an experimental stage.”

Changmin continued, “That’s why we were even more nervous and shaky. After that, Lee Soo Man, who likes to try new things, told us, ‘I think it will be alright if you continue as a duo’.”

Yunho also shared, “That day, other people also told us it was going to be alright with just the two of us.”

I'm kind of curious who they would have added...I have a couple dream options of who I would want to add, but each one would get so many antis no matter what D:

I'm curious WHY they would add a member not necessarily whom.

What's the point? Just because they need another singer? Or another dancer? Yunho and Changmin are on very different skill levels with dancing and singing but I think whoever wanted to make the decision wasn't thinking about NEW TVXQ songs that were possible but old ones.


I think tbh though if they had added another member it would have been the biggest disrespect to Yunho and Changmin (outside of Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu). Like they weren't good enough as a duo they needed to have SOMEONE ELSE come in and fill in a position they couldn't.

I was thinking the same thing. Who could learn all their material, who could keep up with them and vibe with them as a group. Certainly not a trainee and I don't think an already established artist would even touch that idea knowing how sensitive things were with the fans and stuff at that time.

That's what I was wondering. If maybe they considered someone who's in EXO now? I mean...I would assume they would want to pick someone who was a good singer, not too young, not too short (because it would look odd next to those two giants), maybe a good dancer, though I guess if they were adding another vocalist they might have focused more on singing or dancing. Given those requirements I can't really see anyone from EXO fitting in. imo either Zhou Mi or Henry wouldn't look too weird with Changmin and Yunho, but they already have so much negative feeling built up toward them and then to move them into that (possibly even more!) awful situation would be heartless.

Other than that...idk Kangta? but he's kind of too old to be an idol now, as much as I love him. I really can't think of anyone else, unless they were going to pick a trainee, like Liu Chao. I think I remember reading that he was supposed to be a good singer... I don't really know that many trainees though.

Tbh I don't think adding another member would've worked very well. It was hard enough Getting HoMin recognized as a duo, but I feel like the new member would've been outright rejected. That guy or those guys would've been miserable. :/
