NHK bans K-Pop from Kohaku

Amid anti-Korean fears, Kōhaku, 'makeshift Japan' bans K-Pop, says Korea
NHK has gotten more strict on the appearance of Korean artists on its famous year-end show, "Kōhaku Uta Gassen," due to growing anti-Korean sentiment in the country, reported the Fuji evening newspaper. Korean media has also started to pay close attention to this situation, one by one reporting on it.
The Korean media has released such headlines as "NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen bans K-Pop stars among anti-Korean anxiety," "Japan hurriedly orders NHK to ban K-Pop on Kōhaku," spreading the news that there is a high probability of K-Pop not being included on a show that is considered the height of Japanese tradition and authority in the entertainment world.
Earlier in the month, NHK President Matsumoto said, "Lee Myung Bak demanding apologies from the His Majesty the Emperor, as well as the Takeshima problem has created concern over whether Korean artists will be invited to perform, due to growing animosity from viewers," at a press conference on September 6.
This was quickly picked up by the media in South Korea. As well, last year's Kōhaku saw Tohoshinki, Shojojidai and KARA perform, but today, the popularity of K-Pop is not nearly at the same level as it was before, they reported.
Korean netizens who saw this expressed disappointment. The media pointed out that things like the Takeshima problem, Lee Myung Bak's demand for an apology from His Majesty the Emperor, etc. do not just affect diplomats and politicians, but the entertainment world as well.
However, in contrast we see Japanese politicians say rash and careless remarks as a habitual behavior, and it is impossible to suppress sarcastic laughter when a makeshift nation like Japan would insert politics into its cultural domain like this. It seems the Korean media will continue to berate Japan until they stop interjecting politics into every area of their country.

At last it's been decided! NHK Kōhaku will have zero K-Pop!
It has recently been made public that there will be no inclusion of K-Pop artists in NHK's "Kōhaku Uta Gassen" this year.
Last year, Korean artists Tohoshinki, KARA and Shojojidai made appearances, but there has been a deterioration of Japanese-Korean relations amid the Takeshima controversy, and NHK's decision "Is a reflection of viewers' animosity," theorized one official.
Scheduled to broadcast from 7:15pm until 11:45pm, the show will tie last year's, which featured a theme of revival after March 11 earthquake, as the longest in history. NHK's President Matsumoto said, "The Japanese Olympic team won a record 38 medals this year in London and gave Japan a great deal of strength. With our show, we'd like to send a message, through song, of stepping forward." His comments indicated that the selection at Kōhaku would represent Japanese singers in particular.
One music insider said, "Korean artists generally see Japanese activities as just business. There are some that go back to their fatherland they proclaim, 'Dokdo is our land!' If artists like those were able to perform at Kōhaku, it would at the very least send a political message. And it would not just be an issue of profit, but an international problem. NHK's decision is wise."
Since the old days, the implicit rule that "Politics has no place is the entertainment industry" has been around, but that is no longer the case. With the Takeshima problem looming, there will be an unmistakable pause in the cultural exchange between the two nations. The decision to exclude K-Pop from Kōhaku Uta Gassen holds strong meaning.
