Minors will soon be subject to costume regulations when they go on air, said the Korea Communications Standards Commission Tuesday.

The commission stated on its website that it will push for a new rule to regulate revealing clothing for teen and child performers in order to control exposure.

“Broadcasters must pay attention to and refrain from excessively exposing female minors during program recordings. Overly suggestive screen shots of girl groups composed of a large number of minors must also be banned,” said the revised bill.

The commission also decided to issue warnings or even stop a program from being aired if the broadcasters do not abide by the new revisions.

“We made the decision to go forward with the act because it has turned into a significant social issue in that such actions or scenes could damage the psychological state and characteristics of children and teenagers,” it said.

The KCSC decision is likely to trigger strong protests here and overseas from fans of the country’s many girl bands, according to industry watchers.

This is not the first time the commission acted to protect underage performers. In August of last year, the commission gave a warning to singer Hyun Ah, who was then a minor, because of the excessive sexual overtones of her dance moves.

I agree and it's been my problem with Hyuna for a while.

But they should ban male minors too, just in case. I might be the only one but, I don't like awkward shirt raises in the middle of performances especially when there's nothing there.

They should just stop half baked sexy manly concepts tbh, the biting your lip, grabbing your collar and awkward thrusting is not sexy.

Phew, for a moment I thought all the sexy times were over. Good thing we can still perv on the sexy moves of the boys~

On a serious note, I can see where this is coming from, with skirts getting exesively shorter by the day, showing more and more skin. I can still remember the uproar of broadcasters of a female group showing off their belly's (cant remember who) and now it seems the norm...

Yeah because that's going to help. Why don't they focus on the working regulations for ALL minors rather than just "suggestive clothing etc". The fact that they're only focusing on female idols rather than all underage idols is problematic because there are numerous underage male idols that do things that are just as sexually suggestive and, from what I know of k-fans, boy group fans get a lot dirtier than girl group ones, jussayin.

Date: 2012-09-25 04:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] patentpending.livejournal.com
Exactly. This is "damaging the psyche of females" even more by basically telling them it's okay for one and not the other. If they're gong to do this they need to address the problem at all fronts, other wise this is just a ploy to suppress sexuality and shame females in general.

From: [identity profile] ifuckingluvya.livejournal.com
while I think sexualizing young males is definitly a big problem too I think female idols are usually more vulnerable, just because they are woman. We are always on the bottom of everything :/

Also I don't see the majority of the "sexy" groups expressing their sexuality like many around here claim but just blantant explotation from the companies.

Yeah, IA female idols are more vulnerable, but this idea that young male idols shouldn't be included is ridiculous and if you've seen some of the things female k-fans post and say about underage male idols, it'd make you sick. Girl idols do have ajussi fans (like IU) which is crazy because you shouldn't be 40 and stan 16year old girls, but usually they want to protect them rather than anything else

Yes, she is 20 this year. That's because the age of majority in Korea is 20, and for realsies 20, not Korean Age 20.

EDIT: Or maybe it really is 19 and it was before June? I keep seeing things that are contrary about whether it's 19 or 20 real years.

If only this was really for the minor and not for their own pride. They don't want the world to look at their grils as sex objects.
How about you go to the companies and tell them their dress and dancing is suggestive.
Cameramen are the last step of the process.

Date: 2012-09-25 05:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jaeslurpy.livejournal.com
i agree this needs to happen but they also need to do this for the boys that are minors. plus look into the actual companies these groups are coming from that have all these really sexual concepts, dances, and clothing. only so much is going to change unless they go to the root of the problem.

you people are ridiculous... females are constantly being objectified all over the world. So Korea does something about it, but now it's wrong because they don't do it for boys too? Now this is somehow gonna "damage the psyche of females" and "repress their sexuality"?

double standards are a fact of life. i don't ever recall any women complaining that they don't have to be conscripted into the army. the fact is that women are more easily taken advantage of in this world than men are. so women need more protection from the law than men do.

Date: 2012-09-25 06:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] 921227.livejournal.com
I don't think anyone's against the rule, it's more that Korea could be doing so much more for underage idols in general that they focus on something like this, which is, while good, doesn't even chip the iceberg on the amount of problems idols have.

It seems more common for the idols to be younger as females, I see very young nugu girls but from what I've seen not very young boys. Young girls seem to be more sexualized.

sadly a lot of men will still watch a barely teen girl in skimpy clothes but I don't think as many women would be drooling over a half naked little boy.
