SBS Drama ‘Five Fingers’ have been embroiled in another controversy after allegations of its plagiarism has been made over the Internet.

On 10th, a blogger has posted on his blog a post with a title of ‘Five Fingers and the Five Reasons Why it Seems So Familiar’.

The blogger has claimed that ‘Five Fingers’ have a number of similarities with the novel ‘Rhapsody of Murder’, and has cited five reasons why it seems so in the post.

The first reason was the similarities with the character of Yeong-rang of the drama, and Yeong-ae of the novel.

“Yeong-rang of ‘Five Fingers’ was a pianist with great potential, but gives up music and lives as a housewife until she finds Ji-ho, her husband’s illegitimate son, whereupon she becomes a vengeful person. Yeong-ae of ‘Rhapsody of Murder’ also was a pianist with great potential, but was forced to give up music after an accident. She likewise lives as a housewife until she adopts Myeong-woo, who is a better pianist than her own son, whereupon she becomes a vengeful person”.

The plot element of an accident involving a finger, Ji-ho being a songwriter and a pianist, the main character abandoning her husband in a fire, and the investigations of the fire by the characters, are all cited to be the similarities by the blogger.

The scene where Ji-ho argues with the conductor, citing him not playing the music ‘correctly’, Ji-ho being an object of jealousy from his colleagues, the scene at the investigation room, and the analysis of the CCTV, are also cited as the similarities.

A representative from the SBS, however, has commented, “I am very sad to see our drama being embroiled in such controversies of plagiarism. The developers of the drama will release official press reports regarding this allegations.”

The author of the novel is contemplating legal action. Check out the ratings on a steady decline with each new episode here! So much for SBS kicking Eunjung out to save their drama...

It had so much potential to be awesome, but it started dragging a lot once they got to the adult actors.

it's not bad, the problem is the pace, it's too slow now that the adult actors started to show up, they need to pick it up, asap.

honestly, i watched it for the three main actors, because they are so amazing i could watch them reading menus.

You should watch Answer Me 1997. It's really good; so funny and heart-warming. I've seen Haeundae Lovers and I think it's okay.

The ratings aren't awful but they're dropping fast which doesn't happen usually, means the drama is really bad even by Korean standards.

not really, terrible dramas often get good and average ratings, the problem is that it's not happening anything, everything seems very slow to happen.

omg ikr? they are so cute together. fucking jaewon oppa, i love your pasty ass, but you are gonna have to WORK IT in order to make me ship kangsan and haejoo!

i was really disappointed that we didn't get a taste of the adult actors this past week to see how they will measure up...oh well, we'll see. the ratings have been soaring, it'll be a shame if they drop now that the adults have stepped in.

the gap between may queen and five fingers is 5.2% in the last episode.

Park Gun Tae has becoming such a handsome young man. I can't believe he is the same kid who acted as JiSub's sister son in 'Sorry, I Love You'. I have the feeling that he gonna be the next Yoo Seung Ho. :))

Never said it would! But the netizens were so exercised about it, when without her it can still certainly flop on its own merits.

Date: 2012-09-11 01:45 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lysblack.livejournal.com
it wasn't the netizens who pushed her out, even though they didn't want her in the drama, but the advertisers and sponsors.

Date: 2012-09-11 02:03 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] supplanter.livejournal.com
... yes? Netizens only have as much power as advertisers/sponsors give them. But I find it funny that there were fans (of the returning actor, iirc) who were all "ohnoes, eunjung being in the drama will ruin oppa's comeback!" when, pfft, no.

(How is the critical reception for the drama, though? Or are there not enough episodes?)

Date: 2012-09-11 02:20 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lysblack.livejournal.com
are you ware of how big the t-ara scandal was and that eunjung's image was tarnished to the point she lost cf deals? that was happened with 5 fingers, even with the netizens backlash they were keeping eunjung on the drama, the pd and cast wanted her to stay, but the advertisers decided they didn’t want to be linked with the product, aka the drama, if eunjung remained on it. especially since it would make it a lot more difficult to get sponsors or to sell the drama overseas. netizens were a big part of big, but not the main factor and reason.

and yes, eunjung in the drama would ruin the chance of ji hoon's comeback, because her image was linked to a scandal, when he is trying to leave one behind, that would bring out comparison after comparisons, plus it would bring the drama a lot of negative press. especially when eunjung was firstly chosen because of her popularity and good press in which they hoped to boost the drama's ratings and allow people to give ji hoon a second chance.

while now the drama is doing bad in ranting it's nothing related to the scandal, as it has been pushed back and forgotten, but the fact that the audience seems to be iffed about the slow pace of the drama.

i haven’t see any negative response to the drama, at least not any alarming one, critics seem to be in love with the main trio acting as they give strong performances and seem a bit divided about jin se yeon's acting, but her character itself is pretty bland.

From: [identity profile] supplanter.livejournal.com
I am perfectly aware of how it works. But like I said, the drama is free to fail on its own merits. (Although, honestly, you might expect the negative publicity to cause more ppl to tune in to see what all the fuss is about.)

Well, at least if the critical reception is positive it might help them find their next work. Or not.

the OP clearly is not aware why eunjung was removed from the drama, it was because of money reasons because sponsors would walk out if she wasn’t removed and with that they wouldn't have money to actually shoot the drama, which is a very expensive one. oh and eunjung being on it wouldn't help in the ranting at all.

also, five fingers is based on a manga/mangwa, so the blogger has to sue the correct people.

and honestly, the drama is not bad, sadly it is just your standard korean melodrama, it doesn’t bring anything new. plus they are against a really good and fresh drama.

it makes me sad that it's not doing so well because the three main actors (joo ji hoon, chae si ra and ji chang wook) are fucking amazing at their job, one of the best actors korea has, and are bringing their a game, they have so much chemistry with each other it's insane. (sometimes a little too much tbh, jihoon and si ra have this crazy sexual chemistry going on).

Aww...JJH...but I had to stop watching makjang dramas a few years ago anyway. I was going to try to force myself to watch/fast forward this for my Queens Insoo but once there was only one Insoo left and they hired the Gakistal girl I was like NOPE.

Who am I kidding...I can barely finish dramas these days. There are only a few exceptions. If the drama starts slacking I start reading recaps instead.

I do still kind of want to finish Flames of Ambition though because it takes over the top TO THE ELEVEN

This drama must be bad since it declined in every episode -- meaning, all the fans that watching it first in the beginning, they decided to drop it in the end. >.>

I feel terrible for Chea Si Ra & Ji Chang Wook who used to have high ratings for their dramas and not to mention JJH since this is his comeback drama after all. JCW's decision to be a second lead in this drama seemed to backfired.. :(

see, this is the sad part, the drama is not bad, it's not great, but it's not bad, i'ts your average makjang, and i've seen a lot of down right terrible dramas with good ratings (i'm looking at you fashion king).

like you said, i feel abd for the main three actors who are on fire, i only watch for them and they give me all the feels in the world.
