2NE1 has become the first girl group to rank on Billboard‘s Current Box Score.

The ladies of 2NE1 recently held an independent concert at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on August 24th. 6,680 of the 6,714 tickets put on sale were sold, bringing in a gross sales of $653,716, and ranking at #29 on Billboard’s Current Box Score.

Box Score receives information from promoters all over the world and assesses ticket sales and audience members for all performances put on over the past three months. The only Korean artists to have their names listed so far on this chart were SMTOWN and Lim Jae Bum, but now 2NE1 has become the first girl group to be listed on Billboard’s Current Box Score.

The ladies of 2NE1 are currently touring in Japan. The girls kicked off their Japanese concerts with a three day concert in Osaka (August 31st to September 2nd) at Osaka Castle Hall, where 36,000 fans gathered to see them perform. The girls will also be performing at Nagoya Nippon Gaishi Hall on September 7th and 8th, at the Yokohama Arena on the 11th and 12th, and at the Saitama Super Arena on September 29th and 30th.

it's messed up how more seasoned and accomplished artists on this list all have relatively cheaper tickets compared to most k-pop groups...

Seriously. I know someone who paid 80 bucks for front seat Lady Gaga. Kpop ticket prices are obscene.

Seasoned and accomplished artists who don't have to worry about filling and paying for a stadium in a foreign country anymore. I get the feeling that YG was probs paranoid that not enough people would show up.

You're probably right. I just can't help but think they'd get more people to attend if the tickets were cheaper and people had more notice.

Besides, don't artists make tons of money on the merch they sell at shows anyway?

YG hired a lot of high profile people for big bang and 2ne1, they also have to travel farther so it's probably more expensive. They will have a hard time covering costs if they don't inflate their prices.

Totally, but so many artists, not necessarily big name artists, perform in foreign countries for prices much cheaper than what they're charging. I guess it's a matter of priorities. If YG's focus is on money and prestige, then I understand why they spent the money the way they did and why they chose the venue they did, ect.

I'd really like to see the numbers. I wonder how much of that money YG actually gets back and how that would compare if they played at smaller venues, with cheaper ticket prices, ect.

The difference is only 34 tickets and those were probably given to private guests. To Nokia Theater, I guess they consider that as good as sold out so they awarded 2NE1 with the plaque anyway.

For real. The NY show had soooo many empty seats it was ridiculous. The same with Junsu this past week (although I don't know if they're claiming it sold out or not)

I don't understand how inclusion on this list is decided. Is it because 2NE1 went through LiveNation? Because if you look at the full list it goes down to the top 129 spots including a concert that made $350. Obviously there are a lot of other k-pop (and non k-pop) acts that would qualify, but I think this list only collects data from specific promoters (like LiveNation).

Especially after reading the article about how Korean media is controlled, I'm sure this was written up YG with no journalistic inquiry of what other kpop concerts usually make.
