Well, I probably shouldn't generalize to every store, but for the one I went to, they had very condescending attitudes. I don't know if it was just to foreigners, but I saw they also seemed to treat a Thai girl who was there pretty rudely too. When I asked to try a t-shirt on like everyone else there was doing, the employee scanned me from head to toe before throwing me a face cover (I guess Koreans use a lot of makeup) and I guess it doesn't sound so bad, but at the time, I felt like her attitude was pretty condescending and it just rubbed me the wrong way.
The policy was if you bought over US$39, you could get a JYJ/Junsu poster, so I went back in the afternoon for a second purchase of around $54-$59 (don't really remember) to get a second poster for a friend back in the States. However, they recognized me and decided that I shouldn't need either a second poster or a bag since they gave me one in the morning already. When I asked for a poster, one of the two female employees scoffed loudly in my face while the other refused to look at me. I insisted and the one who was looking away reluctantly gave me one because I refused to leave, while the one who had scoffed ignored me. Since they were being so rude, I decided to ask for a second bag too. The bag was just a small paper bag tbh, so I don't see the big deal, but needless to say, they basically glared at me the whole way out afterwards. >____<
I like JYJ, but I'm not sure I ever want to go back to a NII store to buy something again because of the bad memories. Maybe the service at the main store will be better, who knows. :( Or maybe it's the culture and I'm just used to stores like Macy's, etc. in the U.S. being pretty accommodating and civil.
that is sooo unprofessionnal! Shouldn't they be super happy to see that a national brand like them get international custumers. And it's a good amount of money you did pay why are they being so cheap with the poster and the bag! ggrr bad custumer service is so unlogical to me. It was so uncalled for and like you said we shouldn't generalize. Hopefully it was just this shitty store.

Yeah when my friend went to france but esp resturaunts in france she was shocked with how rude everyone was or "rude" since the french were probably just doing as usual lol (or maybe they were derisive of her americanness, both are as likely lol) but yeah the rest of the world's service personnel dont feel the need to be as congenial as US employees. but you know, conversely, when my friend who had lived in japan for a few years came back to america she was surprised but how "rude" everyone was then too. But then Japan takes their politeness srsly lol. Its almost unnerving if you arent used to it!
I dont think its the culture per se like maybe if you were in a really high end store and didnt look "rich" enough? I have never been to korea tho. But I assume since they put so much emphasis on manners that they would be strict about how customers are treated, but who knows. I dont blame you for not going back. and I honestly wouldnt have bought anything from such rude ass people like HELL no. and I've run into rude shop keepers in the US too and nothing drives me out of a store faster. I already get anxious going out as it is. I'm sorry you had to go through that and hopefully that's not how all or most korean shop keepers treat foreigners. :(
haha, I meant culture only in the sense that the norm is that employees don't feel obligated to treat customers as nicely, but you could be right too, though NII isn't that high end at least for where I come from (though they are ridiculously overpriced I admit). There were people at stores in more rural ares and also people who sold at small stalls along streets that were actually very nice, so definitely not pervasive throughout Korea.
In some places like Migliore, Dongdaemun, a lot of the people selling clothes were somewhat disdainful when someone who wasn't young/trendy and a foreigner at that were just touching/flipping through the clothes, so I agree with you, it might just be if people don't look rich enough and also the area of Seoul/Korea you're in (maybe in areas like Myeongdong and Gangnam where people are dressed more trendily, are generally young and tend to be richer?)--and it probably happens in other countries too.
I honestly wouldnt have bought anything from such rude ass people like HELL no. :D I'm glad that so many here agreed with this, since the employees seemed so righteous that even I had doubts at the time whether I was the one with the problem :( haha, I still decided to buy from them though, since I didn't have that many days left there and I had gone to Seoul hoping to at least bring back something from certain stores like NII and Innisfree.
That was definitely rude. I'm sorry you had to experience that. Personally, I've never encountered a rude ass sales staff, but if it were to happen I would probably try to annoy the hell out of them (like trying on tons of clothes but not buying a single one lol)
One of these days I'll have to write to NII to thank them for choosing JYJ as models so I can enjoy all this ridiculous cuteness with every new shoot ^_________^ The boys always look amazing in their stuff and look like they're having such a laugh. I think this particular shoot is one of my favourites too because there were so many fabulous photos and the video is full to bursting with golden moments =]
