There’s another gender-bending youth romance on its way… but before you write this one off, there’s one big difference from all the others: This time the boy’s dressed as a girl. Hee. It’s about time!

The short mini-drama is called Ma Boy and the main character is played by Kim So-hyun, a child actress you probably recognize from playing villainous characters in Rooftop Prince(as young Jung Yumi) and The Moon That Embraces the Sun (young Kim Min-seo). She’s in her first leading role as Geu-rim, a student at an arts high school who dreams of becoming a pop singer.

At school Geu-rim gets a new roommate in Irene, who’s actually a boy, HAHA. Irene is played by idol boy 

Sun-woong of the pop group Touch, and her persona is a pretty (female) CF star. His actual name is Hyun-woo… and I suppose we’ll have to just watch to find out how Hyun-woo became Irene, because we’re not given much information on that origin story.

In the poster above, the tagline for Hyun-woo reads: “This guy has a special secret.” YOU DON’T SAY. Then at right, Irene sports a matching tagline, “This…girl also has a special secret.” O RLY? So much ridiculousness, I can’t wait.

Sadly, Ma Boy is only going to have three episodes. It airs on a cable channel, Tooniverse, and premieres on August 16. I’m not sure how available the show is going to be, but you can bet I’m going to scour the sites for it. With this premise, how can you not?

I know nothing about the male lead and his band but he is so beautiful as Irene, I can't ;A;. I am intrigued to watch this drama upon reading the drama's 1st episode recap on dramabeans. This drama seems refreshing and certainly will be my guilty pleasure but as of now, no english sub is available as yet for the drama. wae?! /frustrated ;A;

I am pretty sure Taemin would have turned this one down hardcore if he was offered it, plus he's got a pretty face but his shoulders are really too broad for being really convincing as a girl IMO. (he still looks gorgeous in drag but I dont know how anyone could look at his upper body and think he's a girl) Ren would have been perfect tho playing ice queen Irene, since thats already how he acts hahaha. and unlike Taemin I think he doesnt mind being pretty and girly at all. (Niel is a little bug eyed and alien like, its not that he wouldnt make a convincing girl, he doesnt make a convincing human. XD)

So is this a ...romance? I'd find that hard to swallow considering Kim Sohyun is quite young, but I am all for her coming to the realization that it's okay to have girl-crushes or, alternatively, that there can be girl-boy friendships in dramas.

Yep, I told a girl upthread the same thing, I dunno, it doesnt bother me so much? and I love pretty girly cut taemin but he wasnt going to be a dewy eyed baby faced sweetheart forever. Altho I think his face hasnt rly changed much, just his voice and body. and I like the change in his body, he was always pretty but now he's sexy too. or maybe just cause I really like broad shoulders XD and he's getting all toned/muscular now too. Which has fangirls in a tizzy. I rather like it but I hope he doesnt feel so burnt out from his cutesy pretty boy role that he tries to go too far in the other direction XD. so far I think he's nicely straddling that line between masculine and feminine features. (Kind of like Kim Jae Wook who has a really pretty feminine face but the rest of him is not so much lol)

I believe the manga you are thinking of is Tenshi ja nai!/I'm not an angel! and alot of people have been saying the same thing. I think it was based on that manga or failing that at least inspired by it. (way too many similarities to be just a coincidence imo)

When I first saw this announced on dramabeans I cried with joy. I am not exaggerating I actually teared up. I REALLY LIKE PRETTY BOYS IN DRAG. like alot. so I was like I DONT CARE IF THIS DRAMA IS 3 EPS LONG AND I DONT KNOW ANYONE IN IT AND ITS GEARED AT CHILDREN I WILL WATCH THIS SO HARD. But surprise surprise it's actually not bad at all. Javebeans was spot on when she said its like a disney show. Honestly when I saw the stills I wasnt sure who was the girl and who was the guy in drag. and when I guessed I mistakenly thought that sun woong was the girl -_- he is way prettier than the heroine lol. I mean she has the smaller/cuter face but like his is more elegant and glamorous imo. I hope this gets subs but I'll watch it even if it doesnt. (he's really cute/pretty as a boy too. altho I hope we see him in clothes outside of his dance sweats and school girl uniform at one point.)

Lol are you me? xD I personally think Sunwoong fits perfectly as Irene/Hyunwoo as compared to other flower boy idols because he can pull off both characters really well. pretty as Irene and handsome as Hyun Woo *____* gurl I've watched the raw episode (I'm impatient like that) and I was already giggling like a fangirl already. I can't imagine how will I be if I get to watch it subbed lolol. I so wanna know what Irene/Hyunwoo's inner monologues were

the first episode was so cute but lol he doesn't look /that/ pretty. i mean, he's beautiful, i give that, but for the entire class to fall over him? okay.
