The point is that nothing's actually being shown. There are girls in bathing suits and club wear, but the censor bars are being applied randomly over nothing and everything.
That's fine. And I get that. But I'm coming from a space right now where I don't want men to make this specific commentary using female bodies in a semi-ironicsexist manner. That's all.
Fair enough. I like their commentary, even if it is crass. Their last mv provided a pretty unvarnished look at the aspects of Korean society that Korea would prefer to bury (like transgendered people), so I can't help but appreciate the realism.
I'm not aware of this MV. The last MV of theirs I saw was "Thumbs Up" and I can't remember anything about it, but I'll check out this other MV.
But I think it's important to realize who's voice is heard and who's allowed to even bring up these topics- all privileged male-presenting individuals and that just really jumps out at me. So, I'm having a really hard time accepting their voices speaking about issues concerning other groups, especially groups over-which they have discernible power.
*sigh* I've just spent 45+ hours this week in workshops designed to challenge various forms oppression and so I'm hyper-cognicent of things like this and I've just realized that I obviously haven't been able to let go of some of that mindset yet and am now discussing it online... :/
"Thumbs Up" was the mv I was referring to. There's a moment near the end where, in typical Crispi Crunch fashion, they learn that the girl they've been dancing with is transgendered and their response is only to grin and "thumbs up". It's a small moment, but it's a fairly positive reaction (better than many reactions transpeople often face, i.e. disgust or hatred), and one way to show that there's more to Korea than cisgendered people.
Your criticism is valid, I'm certainly not dismissing it. I'm just pointing out that I like the message despite the problematic who is presenting it. Not too many artists in Korea (male or female) try to attempt this, so I'll take it when and where I can get it.
Thanks for sharing and I get what you're saying. I checked out the un-edited (?) version of the MV and I found the person peeing upright to be a little exploitative and sensational, to be honest. It's a short moment that can be interpreted in so many ways, I just so happen to be a more cynical and critical person, I suppose XD
