YG Entertainment has just notified allkpop of some changes in upcoming plans. Unfortunately 2NE1‘s upcoming single, which was scheduled to be released on July 28th originally, has been canceled. However! The girls will be returning in October with a new album instead.
According to original plans, 2NE1 had intended to release their second single three weeks after the release of “I Love You” back on July 5th. However, as their ‘New Evolution‘ tour will kick off in Seoul at the end of this week, followed with performances overseas in August and September, it was decided that the double promotions with the tour and music program performances in Korea may take too much of a toll on the girls. Thus, after an emergency meeting, YG Entertainment has announced that they will be scrapping the plans for the new single coming up, and will instead be focusing on a new album release in October.
Although they are aware that some fans may be disappointed with the sudden announcement, they stated that this decision had to be made in order for the girls to focus more on their first world tour and give the producers in the agency more time to produce a higher quality album.

Date: 2012-07-27 04:44 pm (UTC)Now they will probably just get bad press about poor ticket sales for their concerts in US (lots of people can't afford to go to both Big Bang's concert and 2NE1's concert, and are thus choosing Big Bang instead of 2NE1). Also I don't think 2NE1 was ready for a tour with a live band as their singing/rapping technique is far behind Big Bang's. I'm expecting announcements of vocal chord nodule problems for the whole group. And I kinda fear that people might be disappointed with their vocals in Seoul concert (they sounded super shitty in last Inkigayo because the stress their vocals have been put in due to way too many rehearsals) as I fear they don't get their vocal chords in good condition by the time of the concert.
So yeah this tour should have happened somewhere in next year with tour dates being announced months and months before actual tour and probably should have been done without a live band. And this year the girls should have been concentrating on increasing their fandom via another forms of promotion.
Also when the fuck YG is going to debut their new groups?

Date: 2012-07-27 04:50 pm (UTC)I love 2NE1, they are one of the few Korean girl groups that I actually like almost all the songs from, so when the comeback was announced, I was so excited. Then they suddenly say that the comeback is pushed back a month because they want "to make the best Album possible" and I accepted that. And now they say in this article that they have to delay because it will "give the producers the chance to make a higher quality album"? How high quality will this album be if they already delayed it one month and it will now be delayed another 2/3 months?
They announce to be on running man and I am so happy because I love that show and than they suddenly cancel that because they are so shy - which is just a lame excuse in my eyes - and they cancel that as well.
Than they come with the world tour out of nowhere. I am going to the one in Seoul, but it will probably be the same as the other concert. What I don't get is why you make a world tour with no new songs (except ILY), are they going to be doing all sorts of remixes? This will just turn out to be the same concert as Nolza, which is kind of sad. But I just want to see them live so bad.
They release the new song and do hardly any promotions for it. They promise to release a new song in three weeks and now that gets cancelled as well. They knew at YGE that planning a world tour is a lot of work, so why promise a new song in three weeks if you probably already knew that you would not be able to make that happen.
I am just so disappointed in this comeback. It just ruins it for me.

Date: 2012-07-27 05:53 pm (UTC)Am I missing something, or are 2ne1 not one of the most well-rested kpop groups out there? I mean, they don't seem to have other jobs consistently (variety, hosting, acting, modeling, whatever), and when they actually are promoting, they only perform on a couple shows a week rather than the whole roster. And their dance routines are not that challenging, not that that's necessarily different from other girlgroups. Are they involved in a whole bunch of activities non-dedicated fans might not know about (that are above and beyond what any normal kpop group might be involved in) or is this whole line basically nonsense?

Date: 2012-07-27 05:01 pm (UTC)It's always promote one or two songs then disappear for more than a year. At this rate they'll never be able to establish any sort of actual dedicated fan base.
I wonder what will happen to them the moment Korea gets tired of catchy electro-pop. And the music scene seems to be going in that direction too, seeing how many bands and non-idol singers are topping the charts once again.
