Fans may still remember her as the feisty and cute Jan-di who captured the heart of F4 leader Jun-pyo in the hit drama "Boys Over Flowers." But there's more to Koo Hye-sun than just acting.

The 24-year-old Koo has not only released a novel "Tango" last April, but is also showing her artistic talent in a solo exhibition at Gallery La Mer, Insa-dong.

With a sweet smile, Koo shyly admitted she greatly admires Italian master Leonardo Da Vinci.

"Some might laugh, but my role model is Leonardo Da Vinci. One of my favorite teachers gave me a book 'Think Like Da Vinci.' I was influenced by it. Reading the book made me realize that even if we're not geniuses and have our shortcomings, we can still accomplish a lot in our lives. This gave me more confidence," she said
in a press conference at the gallery last week.

The exhibition features around 40 of Koo's illustrations. Some of the works may be familiar for readers of Koo's first novel "Tango," about a young woman's bittersweet love. It is also the title of a song by Ryuichi Sakamoto, which inspired Koo's writing.

Koo said she draws every day for one or two hours in her studio at home. Aside from illustrations for her novel, Koo has also done artwork for singer Gummy's fourth album.

"I want to share my works with everyone. I hope everyone can come and see my exhibition," she said.

Koo does show a talent for drawing, but to have a solo exhibition of her works may seem premature.

The repetitive swirls of blue ink on white canvas can get old fast, especially when the entire room is filled with similar works. Koo's small, delicate ink illustrations show a great attention to miniscule details.

Aside from drawing and writing, Koo said she is also writing a script for a full-length film. She has written and directed a short film "The Cheerful Caretaker," which was included in the Busan Asian Short Film Festival.

At the exhibition opening, heartthrob actors Lee Min-ho and Kim Jun, her co-stars from "Boys Over Flowers," met Koo to show their support.

Proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to the WITH campaign. The exhibition runs through July 7. Visit www.gallerylamer.com.

I don't understand how she got such a huge role with BOF... the girl who played that part in the Japanese version was infinitely better.

I can understand ^^. Inoue was pretty amazing :). She's one of the best young japanese actress by far.

Anyhow, Barbie has my preference because she is SO FIERCE. Honestly, her portray of Makino was awesome and even slightly scary ^^. She is tough and won't crumple or be embarassed but she is also more grown-up and mature, however clueless and thickheaded she might be emotions-wise - there is no OTT acting or too much yelling

Shan Cai and Daoming Si were the most dysfunctionnal and yet it's still mty fave. I guess it has its flows but I'm still attached to it. Jerry Yan's acting wasn't as good as Matsumoto Jun of course, but it grew on me definitely.

And why am I talking so long? Guh. Sorry, sorry ^^.

Barbie Hsu is the fucking HBIC. And this is coming from a person who doesn't even like teen dramas. She has an impeccable style both on and off-screen.

I like Inoue Mao, and it's true she was better for the role, but Goo Hye Sun is also a great actress.

she's lovely, really...
but this thing she has for multi-tasking disables her from being really good at one thing.
it's like she chose quantity over quality.

I think in her head she knows the exact feelings or how the character should be portrayed but when she trys to show it on the outside it kinda falls flat. She has directed things very well.

this woman branches out too much and she's not even good in ANY of these artistic areas. perhaps she should take some time to focus on and perfect one area instead of trying to be an actress/singer/songwriter/writer/arist/director/etc. etc.

Have you seen her short film or read the book she released? I personally haven't, but I wouldn't mind giving them a try.

Well, she's still pretty young so I think she just needs some time. I personally enjoy her acting (nothing extraordinary, of course...but she is one of the few actresses who can play a "cutesy" character and actually come off cute, imo) and artwork but that's just me.

I think she's a better singer than 90% of those idol groups. plus she composes her own songs.

I agree with you. I understand why she's using her fame to get all her other work out there but it seems premature and half-baked imo

Well, I don't like Goo Hye-sun at all but her art is really awesome. A true artist. I think she should stick to art. It's not that she isn't good at acting. Looking at one role she maybe a good actress though but I watch several dramas of her and all the roles are basically the same. So much for the sudden fame.

Having seen her illustrations, but would be interested in viewing them/her novel.

Anyone knocking Koo Hye Sun for her acting from BoF alone needs to go watch Pure 19 before making their final judgment call. It's really too bad that she wasn't able to bring the full spirit that she had in that drama to BoF, but when you look at the combination of an absolutely insane filming schedule and questionable writing decisions for the Korean version, I'm willing to cut her some slack. The girl has more range than this.

But wow, taking on a lot at once.
