Ulala Session’s Yuntaek tries to clear up rumors refuting his cancer diagnosis

On the July 4th episode of SBS‘s ‘One Night in TV Entertainment‘, Ulala Session‘s Yuntaek tried to clear up some unfortunate rumors surrounding his health.

As fans already know, Yuntaek was diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer, but with his upbeat and lively personality and performances on TV, some started to question whether if he was indeed suffering from cancer like it had been reported.

Yuntaek expressed, “A lot of people didn’t believe that I had cancer because they saw me promoting as a singer on TV.”

To help clear things up, his doctor came on air to discuss Yuntaek’s health, stating, “He is diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer and is past the point of recovery.”

Despite the clear up, some still seemed to doubt whether he was telling the truth. Yuntaek stated, “I think it’s funny that I even have to explain myself on TV like this.” When asked how his current condition was, he replied, “Do you want me to explain my state honestly, or give you a made-for-TV reply? Because if I answer honestly, it’ll get sad.”

He continued, “It’s hard for me. After our schedules, the members will massage me while I rest in bed. It’s also hard having to deal with the different side effects every time I switch anticancer treatments.”

To the people that still don’t believe his battle with cancer, Yuntaek expressed, “I can understand why they would think that. But I think it’s strange that I have to explain that it is true that I’m sick. It’s like saying I’m a man when I am in fact a man.”

Seriously, how do you even question something like this...to the point where he even had to bring his doctor in.

It sucks that he even had to do this. Didn't he take a break from Immortal Song because of his health?

are you fucking kidding me?

jw cuz i don't really know anything about him/who he is--i suppose he does look rather healthy for someone going through cancer treatments? not to say i don't believe him, but if he can still get up and do appearances and stuff he's fucking lucky his health is good enough to compensate for the chemo or radiotherapy they're doing for him. i hope he's in that 2-3% that gets better :(

He definitely looks healthier now but I remember seeing him on tv late last year and he looked really sickly. I too hope he gets better but his health seems to have gotten better after he had surgery I think.

that's fucked up that he still had to make appearances and stuff while he was going through treatment. my mom couldn't even go down the stairs some day, let alone breathe practically. honestly, the netizens comments are sick but i shudder at the thought of working for a company that wouldn't allow you the dignity to rest.

Tbh I think he himself wanted to make appearances on shows and stuff. They turned down major label offers after winning Superstar K3 and started their own company. He talked about his treatment and attending schedules here if you're interested :)

These pictures make me sad because they remind me of just how terrible my teacher looked when he was going through some sort of illness (we weren't allowed to know what it was, but there was a lot of speculation of cancer) - probably the best teacher I ever had and to think about the way he deteriorated in my second year ... gah, the tears. ㅠ_ㅠ,

I watched SSK3 and it was really shocking to see his dramatic weight loss during it. At their audition he was on the normal/slightly stocky side, and as the competition progressed, he just got skinnier and skinnier. The cap posted above is probably when he was at his skinniest, and it looks like he's starting to gain some weight back again.
He's stated before that sometimes he can't do Immortal Song because he's just not in a good enough condition, and more often than not it's the other three members that appear only. He also discussed how people wonder how he has hair, but that his new treatment/medicine doesn't lead to hair loss anymore.

Sorry for the long comment, it just makes me frustrated that these netizens think that just because he's not listless or confined to a hospital bed he must be completely healthy. Not that you were implying that of course - I just think you bring up a good point that people could unfortunately turn against him.

Yeah, the pic above and the pic from the OP you can tell he's gaining some weight back. People don't realize that there are different forms of chemo, and not all of them make you lose your hair...it depends on which medicine you get based on what kind of cancer you have. Or if he had surgery or radiotherapy, there are many advances...and even if he did lose his hair, there are wigs I mean seriously come on...this is 2012.

This really is a new low to accuse someone of not being sick, right after accusing another artist of not going to a certain respected school in America etc. You'd think netizens could at least research cancer if they have enough time to sit there and point fingers all day.

All I have are tears about this article. Damn evil netizens and I hope he gets better and/or lives the remainder of his life making the music he wants to. It's obvious that he's continuing with his schedules and whatnot because he's attempting to accomplish everything he's ever wanted to as long as he can.

yes! I have no idea why those netizens can't see that. yes, he's still doing schedules. and why? cause he doesn't know how long he can keep going.

some people are just horrible. damn.

So since his Dr. said he is past the point of recovery, it will be just a short time before the cancer kills him right? And people were attacking him so much he felt the need to defend the truth of his death sentence?! Wow, some people....i just can't.....

haha, wow. good job random people in the internet. would like photos of said cancer to shut you up? despite how cancer treatments can make a person weak, there will be those stubborn ones who want to live their life as it was. respect that choice.

They should never have interviewed the oncologist. He doesn't owe an explanation or any kind of proof to netizens.

I can't believe that in 2012 there are still people who don't understand you can have a serious or even terminal illness and still make the most of your life.

Netizens should watch the late Randy Pausch lecture and look at how "healthy" he seemed to be, though he was vomiting his gut out the night before his last lecture.
Younger people tolerate the side effects of chemotherapy better, plus the newer (and more expensive) chemotherapy have less side effects (less nausea, less hair loss, etc). And this guy want to put up a good show. He wanted to show his best side and live his moments. For crying out loud, let him be!

I have no words...

That poor poor man, and those absolute arseholes who are questioning whether he is ill or not.

Perhaps he just wants to live as normal a life as is possible for him in the time he has left.

I just don't get people sometimes.

Stage 4? Isn't that just a matter of when he'll die now? The netizens will feel pretty stupid when he dies.

Either that or they'll try to refute his death too. People really need to get a life.
