She does decently well for what's given to her but man that is the worst choreographer ever. What the heck was that song choice!!!
This is the paso doble, not the waltz or even the Rhumba, it's supposed to be strong and fierce and full of energy the entire time. This was none of that. It's almost disappointing to have a situation where Hyoyeon can succeed in and she's getting the short end of the stick.
Well the first half was a foxtrot, so they were probably trying to find a song that could used for both. (And, although its not the best choice, I think it worked ok for the foxtrot. The song is 4/4 timing, so I'm not sure how they could have waltz to it).
The judges pretty much gave her all criticism, so its not like she skated by. (A lot of people are saying they were harsh, but I think they were spot on. They pretty much over looked the fall and talked about how her technique is not improving and how much she relies on her partner)
The song isn't what bothers me (I watch the US ver. of DWTS) it's the "choreography". I barely saw any Paso Doble in it. It was so soft and lacked what makes a Paso Doble a Paso Doble. And I really blame her partner. He's not a good teacher and he's a lackluster choreographer.
Gawd, I couldn't even finish it. I won't even post the bad because by this point I'd be pretty redundant. And whoa-ho! Another Latin routine!1! Why am I not surprised by this?
If you read my comment, I clearly say that the Paso is Latin. However, its the first half of the dance, the part where she is wearing the white dress, is not a Paso. That dance is called the Foxtrot and is a standard/smooth dance. Your DTWS categorize it as that too, I promise.
Lol, five seconds of her "dancing" the foxtrot means nothing to me if this dance is supposed to be a Paso Doble that fails to be a Paso Doble. Besides the Tango, she hasn't done any other full ballroom routine which is what I was mostly just poking fun at.
Crying at the song. When I was little I had this on a tape and played it all the time and was just generally obsessed with it. And while I may deeply adore Hyo, her dancing just seems to be getting worse since debut. I've watched a couple of her DWTS performances and they just aren't good :/ and even in MVs her dance breaks have become a couple seconds of awkward flailing. I want ITNW Hyo back.
The judges actually commented on the fact her technique is getting worse and not better and she seems to be relaying on her pattern, so maybe now that she has heard it, she might improve.
Blame it on the ch-ch-ch-ch-choreographer. I don't for one second think Hyoyeon is a "worse" dancer just because she doesn't move like she's about to break herself and I knew this wasnt' going to be like "So You Think You Can Dance" so of course show-offy hip-hop is going to be out of the question. She HAS had good performances on this show, namely her first jive (in the orange dress) and a more recent performance in the green with one exposed leg. I do agree that a lot of it has been repetitive though.
Now we know why all she does in Latin. I've liked Paso-ed once, so no comment on that (because I don't feel its fair), but the judge were so right about her foxtrot. Her technique is really sloppy and she is not getting better.
lol every week people complain about their song choice but it's the show's producers that give them the song. also allkpop's translation was off! the judges didnt say she's relying on her partner. he said that their partnership has gotten really good and we can now see Hyungseok leading (they had pointed out in a previous dance that Hyo was moving before being led) and the comment about footwork technique was more along the lines of how unsure her feet seemed - which i agree with. esp after the fall, they were literally shaking. kim joowon was all praises though.
anyway i do think the choreography is lacking but i cant fault Hyungseok too much cause i think he's doing as much as he can. the rest of the people he's competing with are all his dance school teachers esp. park ji woo who is the co-founder of the school as well as a world Dance sports champion. and they've all been in more competitions which shows in the routines. hyungseok is still a student under Jiwoo's sister and is probably used to having choreography given to him.
in any case im just happy to see hyoyeom doing something she clearly loves and enjoys. and i guess since im no dwts buff (thank god cause they seem to look down on everyone from their high horses) i enjoyed it too and thought the foxtrot was airy and pretty :)

Honestly, this a really good mind set to have. As a ballroom dancer and teacher, its pretty funny to watch their comments, tbh. You can tell that they are just relaying on the show and really don't know what they are talking about anyways. (Like not recognize the first half of the dance was a foxtrot or suggesting that waltz to a 4/4 time song)
The thing about the choreography and what people don't realize is its really only 5-10% of a normal ballroom competition. Many dancer completely opt out of choosing to do a choreographed routine over all. Instead, Ballroom competition are actually structured around something called "freestyles." Its about a minute and half of music that you simply dance to and then are placed 1st,2nd,3rd in you age group/level. (all who dance at once. obviously you know what type of dance, but the rest is lead/follow). They also do have something called an open free style. This does have choreography, but is only about 30-45 seconds worth and is repeated throughout the dance (Its still lead follow though, so if the leader needs change in case you're going to run into someone, you better follow). I wouldn't be suprised if Hyungseok is actually using bits of his normal opens and then mixing in some extra moves for Hyoyeon. When we do charity dances (dwts like events), that is what we do. We just take what opens we know, move it around, add some tricks and done.
I only wrote that much, becuase, from your comment, you seemed like someone that would actual find this interesting.
