U-KISS sheds tears as they yearn to achieve 1st place on ‘Strong Heart’

On the July 3rd episode of SBS‘s ‘Strong Heart’, the members of U-KISS made a surprise appearance and talked about their strong desire to obtain first place.

Actress Bang Eun Hee, who appeared especially pleased to see the boy group, suggested that the ‘Strong Heart’ cast grant U-KISS their wish by playing out an imaginary scenario of winning first place on a music program. Going along with the actress’ idea, Super Junior‘s Leeteuk and Boom pretended to be hosts of a music program, announcing that U-KISS had scored the most points and was thus the victor of the night. The U-KISS members were expected to then deliver an acceptance speech, yet while some members stuttered, U-KISS member Kevin began to cry.

Kevin’s sudden tears set off the waterworks of others as well. While Bang Eun Hee, who seemed to be particularly close to the boys, welled up and went to the U-KISS member for a comforting embrace, entertainer Park Kyung Lim was seen dabbing her eyes with a piece of tissue. U-KISS’ maknae Dongho was evidently struggling to hold back and hide his own tears, as he bowed his head and wiped them away.

After finally bearing the onset of tears, Kevin spoke up, “If we were really to win first place I think we’d react the same way and cry a lot.” He continued, “To our CEO and Eun Hee noona, we have much to be thankful for. We love you.”

Back in September 2010, U-KISS’s CEO and Bang Eun Hee had spoken about U-KISS’s hardships, saying, “U-KISS are working hard, going on without food or sleep and spilling bitter tears. But the fact that they haven’t even gotten first place even once is disappointing [for them].”

Now that it’s 2012, it seems that U-KISS will still have to wait a bit longer to achieve their dream. Thankfully, they have the great support of their company, Bang Eun Hee, as well as their fans to help them compete for that elusive number one spot.

But I honestly don't see how could this bring them a win. I mean, a music show can't just give it to them. There are certain factors that decide upon the winner. And I don't think people will suddenly start buying their stuff just because they feel sorry for them. I wouldn't.

I am not a big fan, I like some of their stuff, but I feel really bad seeing how they always get pushed aside. It's really not fair. Big groups can produce shitty music and they'll still win.

the boys should not feel too bad about it, though. I know it sucks to work so hard and still not win number 1, but winning on music shows involves a lot of right timing and the right song. it is not something that shows how good or how loved a band/group is. even though it's heartbreaking that they actually cried, because it must be something that they really really want to achieve, they really aren't a pity case. they're out there, doing decent, everyone into k-pop knows them, they're able to dance and sing, you know? I think the reason they played that scenario on the show is exactly because people don't see it as a taboo but just as an unfortunate fact; but because they cried, it was heartbreaking instead.

The entire premise of this just seems incredibly cruel tbh. I mean, when someone as seemingly cheerful as Kevin starts crying uncontrollably, you know that some fucked-up shit has gone down.

On a positive note though, I love how much Bang Eunhee seems to care about them, like they're all her kids (iirc her husband is their CEO so she must have known them since they were quite young and it's likely to be really painful for her seeing them grow up and trying so hard and getting pretty much nothing in return). Her pulling away after hugging Eli and screaming about his 'honey thighs' was hilarious too. Omg, and the one host asking Dongho if sits at home alone, drinking by himself, and him falling to the floor... AMAZING (no pun intended).

But I think Ukiss handled it well. And it was kind of funny how Soohyun handed the fake award to Kiseop and ran away.
