2NE1 to release tracks on upcoming album as separate singles

On June 29, YG Entertainment revealed the details of 2NE1’s upcoming comeback by announcing the July 5 release of 2NE1’s new single I Love You.

In addition, after the release of the first single I Love You, the second single will be released three weeks later in a single-by-single release strategy as opposed to the entire album being released at once.

A similar and successful strategy was adopted by 2NE1 last year after it released singles such as Lonely, I Am the Best, Hate You and Ugly and swept the charts.

The upcoming first single I Love You was produced by Teddy and will be performed for the first time on July 8 on SBS’ Inkigayo.

again? i dont really like this strategy though it worked for them once, they must be really confident that all of their songs will be good enough to chart well and to sell a lot, basically good enough to be a title track.

plus they have competition with SUJU releasing their album in the same week, though 2NE1 beats them in quality obvs, but suju has the fanbase. w/e i just want their music already, good luck girls.

I liked the way they did it last time, so I hope they top the charts again because everything from them I've liked. I'm happy to see them up there. I can't think of anyone else's comeback I'm waiting for, they're kind of last to comeback :P For good reason, I hope~

This strategy that YG keeps using annoys me, even though I love 2NE1's music. I don't *want* to buy a bunch of singles, and just feels excessive. Even when the songs are great and deserve to top the charts, it's annoying to have a promo cycle that feels like the sole purpose is to hammer the charts for a short period using sheer quantity, to make one look better. It's not like this kind of promo does much for the longevity of an album anyways.

while i'm sure part of their intent to do promos this way is to slay dem charts, i'm also sure they're doing this so people actually listen to all the songs on their album instead of shafting them like most people do knowing there is a title song. but bc i'm impatient I wish they'd just release everything at once lol

itd be best if they did it like western acts and released the album first, and then did singles separately but this way is cheaper & will earn them more until people get sick of it so theyre obviously gonna do it that way

i do think its a good thing that they release them separately though, there's heaps of good kpop songs that arent title tracks that basically dont get heard by anyone because of it

Eh, I wish they did it like what they did with their first mini - First release a CF song like Lollipop, then some single like Fire, and then the rest of the album and promote it for a long time. This way people would still check out most of the songs and physical sales wouldn't be hurt so much. But I guess we won't ever know 2NE1's real capability with physical album sales (considering their international fandom growth this album should have sold a lot more than their previous ones if they didn't follow this "Release all the songs before!" strategy).

Also how are they going to schedule this with their world tour (plus doesn't this mean they have like only one or two new songs to sing in their Seoul concert? I bet k-blackjacks are disappointed) and all the other YG artists comebacks? GD is coming back in August 18th...

i like this better than the way most kpop idols promote, tbh. it encourages producers to create a song/mini with some cohesiveness in mind instead of just one title track, one decent track that will performed on the comeback stages, and a bunch of filler.

i do wish idols would promote more like western artists, which is one single from the album to build hype (think of what bieber did with releasing boyfriend and letting it chart high months before the album dropped), then by the time the album is out, start promoting another single. then another couple months, and another single. and so on.
