Rookie singer Juniel reveals her relationship with singer IU prior to her debut

Rookie singer Juniel who is increasingly gaining popularity with her charming voice and doll-like looks recently revealed her relationship with singer IU. Juniel who has been dubbed as the “2nd IU” insisted during her interview that she was “not worthy enough to even be compared with IU“.

However, she did reveal her somewhat close relationship with IU. Juniel stated, “During my days as a trainee I personally met IU three times. A close older colleague of mine from elementary school was in the same entertainment as IU at that time. One day when I had free time and decided to meet up with that colleague, she had told me there was a “dongseng” she wanted to introduce me to. That person was IU.”

She continued with, “The first time we met we went to go see a musical together. The second time we met, we went to a karaoke room and had a blast. We also went to a café afterwards and talked for a really long time. Because we are both the same age, IU and I were able to speak comfortably and easily relate to one another pretty quickly.”

When Juniel was asked the question, “Do you two still hang out?” she shook her head and stated, “After we met about three times, I got rid of my phone to concentrate on training and rehearsing. That is when we stopped contacting each other and soon afterwards she had made her debut under the name IU. I’m not even sure if she remembers me. I haven’t had the chance to see her yet. ”

As for her title as the “2nd IU” Juniel stated, “I am extremely thankful of this title. However, I want to become a singer known for my own musical color and want to write legendary music. It has been four years since IU’s debut, but it has only been a week for me. I feel like I have received such a title because I have not had enough time to show everyone the kind of artist that I am. As time goes by and I have am more able to show everyone my own style of music, I believe that title will disappear. My goal is to showcase my own unique colors and become the best singer-song writer.”

Juniel, who was already widely known in Japan, made her debut in Korea on June 7th with her title song “Illa Illa“.

Hah. Has to be said, though, the two songs she's promoted are bland and lame and generic Korean slow pop, and the three songs on the EP she's composed herself have much more of a color of their own. Actually think they would've made a bigger impact on the charts as well, though I guess getting a Yonghwa feature bags her some publicity.

Everytime she has an interview there's the "how do you feel being compared to IU" "Do you know IU"
Cause you know there's no room for two female singer they have to eat each other... journalist

FNC probably vets the questions, no? I think the IU comparisons fit into the company's promo plan. It's becoming annoying, though.

You know that no one gets to choose what they talk about to the media, especially not if they're a rookie in the industry. So she gets asked about IU and has to answer.

actually, most of questions are pre-approved by companies and if there is a subject that an artist doesn't feel comfortable about talking it can be dropped. i'm not saying that she is asking for the questions, but she is not forced to answer them either.

Her company pre-approves them, sure, but I doubt she is allowed much choice in what she gets to address, especially as a rookie musician. No doubt her company would like for the media to maintain that association between Juniel and IU in order to increase her popularity, and she would have to abide by that, or lose their support.

these Juniel x IU are irking me. the last one where she "introduced" the guitar to IU, made it sounds like she's more experienced at guitar than IU when in reality she hasn't played for that much longer. maybe it's just the way the journalist wrote the article...

I really like JUNIEL. I haven't heard her Korean debut mini album yet but I love her Japanese discography, so I'm sure I'll like it too. (I think her Japanese is splendid, hope to see more of her in Japan!)

I got into Juniel because of her Korean mini, and then listened to her Japanese discography and she's just marvelous. :) tbh, if Korea doesn't work out, she should just stay in Japan, because imo she was carving out a nice little niche for herself there.

I think she's adorable and talented, but she still kind of misses the stage charisma at times imo.
