lol i would do this if this were for YG so I can burn most (but, really, all lbr) of BB and 2NE1's wardrobes.

I'd also enact a Jeremy Scott ban.

I don't get that vibe from this. It's more like JYPE is actually looking for fresh talent/younger perspectives from current design students. Science/innovation/business and enterprise fairs/contests happen all the time without damage to their respective industries.

it's hard not to be suspicious when it's a huge thing for companies to do these types of contests in order to get a lot of ideas for really cheap. creatives don't get a lot of respect already (and I know this is the entertainment industry but that doesn't always make that much of a difference). I don't know how it is in other industries but this is one of the methods that a lot of places use in order to skip properly hiring a creative.

You're right. This does have the potential to be really shady. Let's hope the company does things the right way and treat the contestants properly.

don't get me wrong, i'm not assuming the worst of them necessarily, but they may not even realize how this is questionable

True. Let's hope their legal dept can remain transparent and fair with the contestants.

It's all well and good, but to someone who has an interest in making that field their career, money prizes aren't half as good as resume credit or an internship at JYP, neither of which was offered, only a vague nod to a possible leg up if you were to apply to the company. that doesn't mean you'll get hired.

personally i think this contest cheapens peoples' true potential.

Yeah I get that. This is marketed as a contest and not primarily a hiring opportunity though, and I didn't read it as such.

As someone who is a research monkey though, in my experience people jump at the chance to do small stuff like present a poster or publish just an abstract with no other things promised (a prize for the poster, a full publication, etc). Entry-level positions are hard to come by, especially in this world economy. I don't think people should be paid peanuts, yes, but this doesn't seem to promise that--just a chance to get your name out there. It'll probably self-select anyway, and people who don't want short-term gigs likely won't apply.

Well I appreciate their honesty in that it's not a hiring contest and sure, people will have an opportunity to get their name out there and that's not bad. What worries me is that these contests use people and cheapen their potential.

There was a contest put out recently by Mnet which calls upon MVPs to market their company virally. They might as well be called interns only instead of resume credit they could potentially, based on how well they perform, receive some very vague prizes like "Mnet goods." What is that?

So after that contest came out, now this one, you can kinda get why I'm feeling a little skeptical.

yep. i'd rather go through a rigorous interview process in hopes that something will come of it, than entering a contest in hopes that mayyybe i'll get chosen and get some money that will be gone soon (vs. resume experience that's there to stay)

Interesting. Honestly tho JYPE styling has been pretty good in the last year, at least for the ladies. WG's Be My Baby promos were stylistically very nice (and I mean NIIIICE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCwOH58g2NM)) and miss A's Touch promos were gorgeous. Like This is alright and some pieces aren't that great but fitting with the season and I'd actually wear a few (read: Ye Eun's) outfits outside without qualms.
