U-KISS’s member AJ is revealed to be a genius.

In the episode of KBS 2’s quiz show 1 vs 100 that aired on June 12, all members of U-KISS got eliminated on the fourth level. Han Suk Joon, the host of the show, said, “AJ, I heard that you have a smart brain.”

AJ is currently enrolled to Columbia University in the U.S. When Han asked, “When did you study?” AJ replied, “Before I debuted with U-Kiss, I had two and a half years for myself. So I used those years wisely and entered the university.”

On hearing this, Han said, “People study a lot to enter that school, but you’ve only spent a short amount of time. You must be a genius.”

When AJ said that the questions for the quiz were hard, he joked, “But they must be easier than entering Columbia University,” and inspired laughter.

But he hasn't actually gone to the University yet right? Wish he could...after working so hard to get in.

Haha probably but since it is all in English I'm sure it was more difficult

he grew up in states though?
I had to study SAT in my final high school year and english isn't my native language, I mean it's just not suppose to be that hard for him.

He did not grow up in the states. He grew up in korea but went to an International hs I believe. Columbia is a well respected college I think that is what this article is referring to. It is a very difficult school to get into that even native speakers are unlikely to make it in.

2.5 years....total from the time between middle school and college? Impressive. 2.5 years after high school? Eh...international school is also exactly like going to school in a primarily-English speaking country. I mean it's great for him (THE Columbia), but 2 years post-high school education to transfer to a four year college is the average.

I must be Mensa material since I didn't really study for the SAT at all...

Lol. I didn't study at all either. While most of my friends were taking classes to improve their test-taking skills I was being a lazy ass on my computer.

Same except with the ACT (the on required for my state). My parents bought me a book and didn't open it once. Oh well, I sold it online and pocketed 20 bucks. Life is good.

lol people, he probably took the SAT, multiple SAT IIs and AP exams during those two years, not just to study for one test. This is Columbia and he's an international student so he'd be put at a higher standard.

You have to be more than smart for college admissions in the US though.
You have to also demonstrate leadership skills or some other valuable asset to the college.
I don't think Korea understands that at all. They just see "college in US" and think "wow, that must be way better and harder than our universities!" They also don't understand that students in the US sometimes go to a college because of the majors, classes, or faculty they offer and that it isn't always about ivy league schools.

Columbia Uni is a very competitive school. It's ranked #4 in the US and #10 in the world(U.S. News & World Report).

It's absolutely not easy to get into the school even if English is you first language, so AJ deserves extra props.

I remember when he said it was difficult with his studies and all but I'm glad he make it in the end. :D I wondered how he gonna manage since U-KISS will be extremely busy at Japan this year.

Huhu you smart boy, I love you but please don't leave.
Obviously being selfish here.
I think anyone can exaggerate and downsize his achievement, but the fact is, he got in. Clearly, that's something.

It certainly depends on your ability to take tests. The SAT's are not about your intellect it is about test taking strategies. It is multiple choice after all so most prep courses and books focus on teaching you good strategies and whatnot. I didn't aim for ivy league schools because I wasn't interested in moving to the east coast nor moving away from home, so I didn't put the effort into the SAT's. I still scored decently though. But again I don't know how high you are aiming.

dude, this is impressive. my bias, i love you. you are flawless. good at making music, raps amazingly, intelligent, dorky, witty, though a little moody sometimes lol XD let me marry you now.

i heard that it's difficult though to enter US universities especially for international students. there are so many tests to go through and i heard they rely a lot on personal statements and IQ tests (???). i understand HOW DIFFICULT writing personal statements can be so his must be great enough to get him enrolled into Columbia. i had to write mine for Edinburgh for my MA and it was so difficult having to 'sell' yourself since UK unis are very dependent on personal statements.

....and to think that unis in the States is so expensive ;____; and top unis to go to for my course are mostly in the States.

all the best, jaeseop. i want you to stay in U-Kiss but furthering your studies is a better option, of course :) go get your degree!! proud to be a stan of the first idol to go to an ivy league uni :'D
