Girls’ Generation’s first Japanese album was praised by critics and fans alike for its distinct electronic sound that really stood apart from their previous work. The album continues to sell thousands of copies a week, passing over 850,000 copies sold on the Oricon chart and showing how much lasting appeal Girls’ Generation has in Japan.
The certification comes just ahead of their next Japanese single, “Paparazzi”, set to be released on June 27th.

The latest Gaon Chart for the month of May has been released and Girls' Generation "Taetiseo" obtained the 1st place in 3 out of 4 categories including Digital Singles, Physical Albums and Streams, they also got the 3rd spot in the Online downloads category.

Not all stores are registered with Oricon (ie one thing that nobody really thinks about is Japan has tons of cd rental store (like a movie rental or library) that is also buying the cds, but wouldn't show up on oricon) and many events where they aren't sold through retailers, but through the company (SMTWON, SNSD concerts), also don't get a full counts. So, while they "shipped/sold to retailers" 1 million and "sold" 850K to the general public, it probably actually closer to the millions in sales with the public. Either way, they have made a profit off on 1 million cds.
