Juniel named as the next IU?

Rookie artist Juniel, who recently debuted with her first mini-album ‘My First June‘, has been nicknamed as the “next IU“.

After her debut showcase on June 7, Juniel commented, “IU is a senior artist who everyone loves and knows as the nation’s younger sister so when they called me the ‘Second IU’, I was very happy.” She then added, “But I think it’s an overstatement for a rookie like me. I hope to show my own color as Juniel.”

The rookie singer also said, “I was told that my strength is that my voice is able to change with each song,” showing confidence in her own charm. She further revealed her role model to be the popular singer- songwriter, Lily Allen.

Juniel has previously garnered attention for her collaboration with the flower boy, Jung Yonghwa of CNBLUE.

I don't really get the IU comparisons though? Aside from the fact that they're both young solo female singers, and that they can both play the guitar, IU's official releases aren't really in this style.

That was the biggest disappointment to me, re IU: she has a guitar and can play it, yet she rarely does. tbh, I prefer her acoustic song-covers to most of her official releases.

Haha I bemoan that fact every time IU releases something... then end up liking the song anyway. orz Do want an acoustic cover album at some point, though.

But I see IU gradually moving towards self-composed music that's more her style (a la Peach). She's earned herself a strong-enough fanbase to give her more leeway for experimentation, and it's not like she can keep releasing Good Day-/Last Fantasy-type music indefinitely.

idk anything about her but i wish people would stop the whole "second (insert name of big artist here)" because it's pretty insulting/annoying imo, when i'm sure most of the artists are trying to create a name for themselves instead of meeting up to someone else's standards.

plus most of them are really sweeping statements, chances are the artist just debuted and suddenly they are the next gods of the east. not likely.

Also, I'm listening to her stuff right now for the first time, and I think I already prefer her (musically) to IU. She lives up to the yé-yé girl hopes I tried to pin on IU, which didn't really stick.

This is fantastic and there is a definite Shiina Ringo influence in it. Me gusta!

Apparently the songs on her first Korean EP are actually remakes of her Japanese material -- which is kind of refreshing tbh -- and since I like them already, I'm looking forward to hearing the originals as well. :)

I think it's an organ? And yeah, also the verse that follows, and the chorus, they remind me a lot of "Marunouchi Sadistic". Juniel's wiki page says she listened/listens to Shiina Ringo, so I wouldn't be surprised if she counts her as a musical influence.

She sounds pretty good, though I've only heard a couple songs by her. Her songs seem pretty cute!
