Each F4 member to cover a song for a special F4 OST

The production of Boys Before Flowers has put out another supplemental soundtrack, which they’re calling an “F4 Special Edition” OST.

Not only does this mini-album contain new songs, there are plans for more to come — each member of F4 (that’s Lee Min-ho, Kim Hyun-joong, Kim Bum, and Kim Joon — like they require introduction, ha) has recorded a track. They aren’t original songs, though; each actor personally chose a song to cover.

The first to be unveiled is Kim Hyun-joong’s remake of “행복이란” (Thing Called Happiness), posted below, which is a song that enjoyed a lot of popularity when it was first released in the ’70s. It was sung by Jo Kyung-soo, the singer father of actor Jo Seung-woo (Go Go 70). [you can hear and download it at the source]



No wonder these boys are so tired; I don’t know where they found the time, but the songs were recorded in secret and were just revealed today.

From a marketing standpoint, this is probably smart in terms of drumming up maximum excitement as the drama heads to its grand finish. (Boys Before Flowers is still generating lots of press, but to me it seems as though the insane frenzy of the early days has muted in recent weeks.)

Still, I can’t help wishing more of these newer selections had been gradually introduced earlier in the series, because the drama was so overshadowed in the first half with its tired song rotation and could have greatly used an infusion of fresh tunes.

This’ll be Kim Hyun-joong’s second cover song for Boys Before Flowers; he first chose Lee Juck’s Panic song to play in Episode 15. Kim says that both are songs he’s always enjoyed, which makes me wonder if he may have slightly different music preferences than the stuff he puts out with his boy-band group SS501. But that’s okay, ’cause I like his taste. On top of that, Kim contributed an acoustic version of “Because I’m Dumb” to the soundtrack.

Who do you think will have the best cover on the soundtrack? Also, the only one I've seen actually sing is Hyun Joong. I know Kim Joon is in a boyband too, but he's the rapper, will his cover be all rap?

jk jk. I feel in a way, even though Jun Pyo is very flawed and he's 'cowardly' it's kind of (in a weird way, especially since it's a drama) more realistic. To think he could change so easily.

I agree with your interpretation. I know I can't expect him to change so quickly but it seems my patience has waned. With the way things went in this last episode, he still hasn't mustered the courage to settle things himself and rather asked everyone else (Jae Kyung, Jan Di, Ji Hoo, and even Prince Song) to do it for him. I'm afraid when this whole Fiance Arc is finally resolved...Jun Pyo will not be the one to thank. I don't know how I'll accept him again once Jae Kyung is out of the picture. Let's just hope the Korean producers/writers know what they're doing!

I think his voice doesn't sound like it normally does on that song, idk why. I normally really like his voice.

But good shipping choice, bb! I know it wasn't an easy decision to make.

For the Jversion I was very Makino/Domyouji all the way and never changed my mind. And for the first half of this version I was very Jandi/Junpyo and thought Jihoo was just a trouble maker that was getting in the way of my otp. But then when Junpyo started getting douchier as Jihoo got cuter and sadder, I started being like "YEAH GET IT JIHOO, JUNPYO IS A DOUCHE." and the feeling stuck.

MTE. I've been following HYD fandom since the Meteor Garden version. The only thing I haven't done is read the manga itself @_@ I've been a Makino/Domyouji fan through and through and haven't wavered until the past couple episodes. I began to realize that Jan Di/Jun Pyo was starting to bore me. I guess it's the way Jun Pyo (and Ji Hoo) is portrayed in this adaption. But regardless, it seems Jan Di and Ji Hoo are more suitable for each other. So now, I'm a proud Jan Di/Ji Hoo shipper :D

JunPyo/Jandi does pretty much nothing for me lately. At this point Jihoo and Jandi just makes more sense to me.

Personally, in terms of love stories, I would much rather see the story of a sad boy who has lost almost everything he loves in life, but would rather give up the girl he loves to see her happy with another man, to get a happy ending.

I heard tell of some video of Minho singing, but I never saw it. Also, this is the first I've ever heard of Kim Bum singing, so I have no idea if he can or if he has any experience at all.

But it is the logical step for Hana Yori Dango adaptations. The Taiwanese F4 formed a very successful group, so why not try to recreate that with the Korean actors? From a marketing standpoint it's a great idea. However, these boys are overworked and too much exposure could end up backfiring on them.
